I have more apps crash on my iPad then GNex. Android has left iOS in the dust since ICS. While iOS is improving its still just the same OS as the one back in 2007 with more Apps. Android OS has evolved and not just improved.

No input or experience on the Cloud experience ( which is useless IMO. Just more downloading\uploading that takes way too long for my speeds in my area) but the other two things youve listed I have no issue with. Speed on updates runs fine. The "most apps crashing" LOL WHAT? The only app that crashes is the excuse of an app we like to call Facebook mobile. Horrible app. And Im stuck on vanilla Android atm. So wish I could get ICS or JB, but alas, im a bionic. Future for updates seems bleak for me.

I have a samsung galaxy s II it took them 6 months to release the new ICS for my phone. iOs updates are all released at the same time. On my android a lot of apps crash (Angry birds, Temple run, Amazing Alex, Fruit Ninja, and sometimes the official maps app) I never said android was slow I said the updates were slow.

blame the carriers for their stupid "approval" process and manufacturers for skinning.
the SGS2 had AOSP ICS for a few weeks before official ICS firmware came out from Samsung if I remember correctly. Not to mention the "nightly" cooked ROM's using various leaked firmwares.

Are you running a custom ROM and rooted? If yes theres got to be something wrong and I would do a full wipe (davlik and cache as well). If you're running a stock ROM then I'd suggest doing a factory reset to see if that fixes things. As far as I'm aware of; my friend's SGS2 has none of the problems that you've described........

It is rooted. I was running custom roms but couldn't live with the battery life (I noticed most of them drained the battery) I don't hate android I'm just saying it has a fatal flaw due to the fact that it is designed to be one size fits all. Software shouldn't be that way.

I think the Nexus series of devices may be the answer to slow updates and fragmentation. IIRC, they are supposed to always get the latest OS version when it is released since it's Google's flagship device. If I were to ever jump ship from iPhone, it would be to a Nexus for this reason alone.

make sure you get an unbranded (as in carrier branded) Nexus.
Verizon's LTE GNexus was hampered by updates cause VZW was "approving" each update.

My GSM GNexus a few months back got 4.0.3 right away when it was released.....VZW GNexus was stuck for up to 6months I think before they got to see the official update.....but thats not an issue if you're running a custom ROM wink.gif

Considering how easy is to get Roms for GNex why wouldn't you.

See, that's debatable. This is the difference between MS/Android and Apple. Apple deals with developing specific software for very specific hardware, and thankfully, it works exceptionally well for them.

Google and MS focus on making their software general enough to cater for various hardware permutations out there. I wouldn't consider it a flaw at all. Android tries to fill the market with variety, and that works for them too. For almost any reasonable price-point, there are a number of android devices with varying hardware specs to fill.

Apple focused on exclusivity and google focused on variety. Honestly, I am much more impressed by the software work android/MS does than I am with iOS. Their products are ( in my opinion) incredibly well written considering how much hardware variety they cater for even though they have their flaws.

OT:

I have no doubt that this will sell pretty well (mainly to either blind zombie-masses or people who love the iOS environment but find the iphone/touch too small and ipad too bulky ) ... but I still feel it will be nothing more than an iphone with a larger screen and no phone capabilities ...

Verizon's Galaxy Nexus update was delayed because its not officially supported by Google, since they don't support CDMA devices(because its the tool of the devil). That means that you'll always have to wait for someone else to get CDMA working with the latest Android source.

And its highly unlikely Apple will release a smaller iPad, since it would just end up being the missing link that confirms to the world that its just an oversized iPod and that unlike Google, Apple has done literally nothing to enhance the OS for tablet use.

Not to mention that given Apple's segregated approach to app development it would likely require it's own App Store, since the nature of the 7" tablet is that you can easily grip it with one hand. That's impractical with a 4:3 aspect ratio, since the width + bezel would be ~6" in portrait mode, so it will likely come with a widescreen 16:9 or 5:3 aspect, making it completely incompatible with every tablet app in the app store, since iOS doesn't use dynamic layouts like a modern OS.
