Buggy apps, not iOS. Like the Facebook app is total crap.

this
Apple will butter up some already existing feature that has been around for ages then proclaim it as "new" and "so creative" of them to fit it in.
examples:
-copy and paste features (forgot which iOS version it was; i think iOS 3?)
-camera shortcut on lockscreen
-volume mod as a camera shutter (they banned a photo app as Apple claimed that it was using API's or something incorrectly then they added it in iOS 5)
-their "notifications center" and pull-down notification shade
-turn by turn voice navigation
theres probably more but thats what I cant think of off the top of my head.

All of those except for voice navigation were parts of iOS and freely made available to most iPhones and all at the same time, unlike the fragmented Android ecosystem which can make you buy a new phone to get a new Android OS version (Talking about average consumer who doesn't know what custom ROM's are). Even Voice Nav is going to be on the 4S though. I could skip the iPhone 5 and not miss out on any features. The main reason I upgraded from the 3GS to the 4S was for the high DPI screen and 64GB internal storage.

erm I believe you're misinformed.
I'm talking about turn by turn GPS google maps navigation which is free
which is available on all 2.0/2.1+ (eclair and onwards) if I'm not mistaken. Officially turn by turn voice nav is only available in the US, canada and UK; unofficially there are hacked apks floating around that unlocks turn by turn for every region.

additionally....google voice actions was also introduced since the same era.

Is that unlike the iPhone 4 vs iPhone 4S, where you were forced to upgrade in order to get the heavily marketed Siri, despite the former being more than capable?

Possibly. From what I'v read, there is some CPU level Siri pipeline or processing or something like that which speeds it up, though it's certainly not mandatory for Siri to work. If it were up to me, I would have put it on the 4 and shown a warning that Siri may suffer a loss of performance on the 4 if that were the case.

i don't mind apple being around to provide competition to drive innovation....what I do mind is Apple suing companies left and right and declaring that they created every single feature that they have in iOS (when they obviously haven't) or patenting in extremely vague terms to use as weapons against other companies.

Custom ROM + Set CPU = Triple the batt life on my G-Note. You might be doing something wrong.

Google providing a non-redistributable binary != AOSP support.
