Is phenom II X4 965 a good upgrade over a Phenom II X3 710?

My buddy said he would sell me his old 965 for 50 bucks but is that even worth 50 bucks over my current CPU? and if so how much of a performance boost can i expect?

yeah but the extra core is not even an issue my 710 is unlocked to a quad.

i can personally attest that moving from a tri core to a quad core (phenom ii x4 940) eliminated my bf3 cpu bottleneck, and generally i think i enjoyed higher minimum fps in games. it greatly reduced my handbrake encoding time as well. also that chip is unlocked, so you should be able to oc it quite a bit, and for 50 bucks it seems like a steal (it will beat out the newer 4 core fx chips) and i am unaware of a cpu that will beat it at THAT price

unlocked? what do you mean? (haven't kept up with AMD for a while), And it does beat the FX series?

The 955 is a Black Edition and all the Black Edition's the mutiplyer isent locked so they can be over clocked by useing just the mutiplyer or they can be over clocked with FBS all other non Black Edition cpu's can only over clocked by just FBS

The FX line over clocks just as well as the PH II line this is why its seen as a side graded if your comming from a PH II to a FX
