it maxes at 3.12GHz and yes the 4th core is stable it been unlocked sicne january and haven't had a problem playing games all this time.

If your thinking about gaming it would make a difference of maybe 2fps at the max and i highly doubt that also. Since your architecture is a phenom II unlocked to an x4 i see no reason why you should buy the same thing for a mere 400-500mhz boost.tongue.gif

3.6GHz is along way from what mine actually gets to it wont go over 3.12GHz even with 1.5V, and 500MHz is a huge jump in speed.

he unlocked the extra core -- meaning his X3 is really a X4.
do it and sell your chip and you'd probably only really be investing $10 or so. an unlocked multiplier would be worth $10 to me, especially if your motherboard sucks.

nope my MoBo doesn't suck It's my CPU not overclocking too well.

yup but it relies heavily on the Motherboard for that type of overclocking.

for games like BC2 it is and i play that game fairly often.

Another one here who upgraded from a 720BE to a 940BE and loving it. Bought the 940BE second hand, and onsold my 720BE, for a total outlay of about $50.

My 720 couldn't unlock, and topped out at 3.4Ghz. This 940 is already running at 3.5Ghz with less volts, and the difference in BF3 is night-and-day. Also upgraded to a second-hand 6950 and sold my two 4870s, for about $50 total outlay - great $100 upgrade, and also added another 4GB RAM for $40 that will be enough to keep this rig running for another couple of years.

I don't know if it would be worth it if your 710 is already unlocked, but as someone said, a BE chip is almost worth the hassle of replacing the chip and selling it etc...only caveat - my cooler is struggling with the added power/heat of the 940, so can't clock it as high as I want to until winter comes around.

wow, quite literally my life tongue.gif got a 940, but i cant keep it cool in the summer, so its at 3.3 until the winter tongue.gif.

what speeds were you getting before? my mobo wont give more than 1.373 v. so i cant push it past 3.6 ghz, and my 92mm cooler keeps it at 60 deg

You running stock fan, or aftermarket? My Scythe was running great with the 720, but th 940 is a 125W CPU compared to a 95W. The extra core is probably heating things up...Still, 3.4Ghz keeps up with everything so far...
