YUP stuff will start throttling if PSU is screwing up.

OP: just because you have nice PSU doesn't mean it isn't faulty, I have seen PSUs check good under a PSU tester and still screw stuff up, power ripple, out of spec volts under load...etc etc.

I have also seen defective CPUs exhibit the same problem as yours but, it could also be the PSU.

Because they probably only tested single player performance.

I just tried single player and exact same stutter / jerk. Same large cpu load @ 100ish.

Because they herp derp on single player. They are correct in that way but who buys BF3 just for SP.

strange, when I used a dual core lga 775 CPU the frame rate wasn't all that great, but it was normal... smooth in smaller maps with less players (even with CPU usage basically always 100%)...
maybe there is something else using your CPU?!

can you test a different VGA on the PC?

also, HT is pretty useful in this game, with my i3 (2 cores) CPU utilization can go much higher than 50% (which is 2 full cores and no HT being used), I think.

Yeah, i'm going to try one of my 6970s next week.

I'm pretty much at a loss at this point without reinstalling windows.

TF2 by the way on offline practice also uses close to 100% cpu (though not fully 100%). I'm not wondering if maybe I do have a faulty cpu or bad cache on the cores, etc.

I think you should trust the peeps mentioning the PSU stuff. It could be the problem. I know that 9800GT + AMD6000+ an hdd, bit of RAM and that lagged on a 550W-600W supply that I had... just because of that.

Also try to undervolt (>underclock if needed) your CPU, sometimes... well just I had that problem that my MB I think (or the afformentioned PSU as well) couldn't push out the 1.4V (default) and I on 1.25V everything was super smooth. Jerky gameplay is awful, you could have avg of 90 and minimum of 50... and someone could be playing on their laptop with 15fps and could be smoother.

Regards.

Wow, you know that I am wrong! Perfect! Just like I stated in my first post, most people think I am completely off track with this diagnosis. I will spare you my credentials and respond at your level:

I don't care to explain how ignorant your reply is, but here is a bit of information for anyone else who stumbles across this issue. The wattage is not the issue, it's how efficient the PSU is providing you 12 volts.

By the way, you and 996gt2 express your ignorance by screaming WAIT WAIT, THE PSU IS 450W AND I'M NOT USING ALL OF IT!!!!! This stuttering / jerky video issue is not caused by a lack of wattage, and I NEVER stated so! Good luck, and let me know when you replace your PSU and everything straightens out.

So much for trying to help....

I'm an electrical engineer. Call me ignorant all you want but one thing I can for certain rule out is my psu. I don't know everything about drivers and the 7770s though, thus I post here for when I need help. I'm just pretty sick of people saying they need a 600W PSU for a computer that idles at 35W and uses a max of 150W (100% CPU load, 100% GPU load, with hard drive access). Its ridiculous that this meme has gotten out on the internet and its difficult to stop it.
