Mini-ITX GAMING PC

Thread Starter
Specs:

1. 3570K
2. Asrock z77-i
3. Corsair H80

So heres the scoop. There has been a lot of "heated" arguments on the subject of gaming with a Mini-ITX system. The purpose of this thread is to figure out which case is best for an ITX gaming system.

There will be no media processing, rendering and whatnot. Strictly overclocking, gaming and internet use only.

Bitfenix has what appears to be a mighty cool case for an ITX gaming rig. At $80, i cant see spending more for a case that has, what i think, is insufficient cooling. Others are suggesting that the Silverstone SG07 case is drastically better because of its "focused flow fans".

So for gaming, would the Bitfenix Prodigy be the best case to keep the guts nice and cool?
I dont care how large or small the case is, as long as it an ITX case and wont burn things up when overclocked. Im sorry if this is a little vague, we will go through details when they come up.

Thanks for your help and please, NO TROLLING.

I'd say go for the Bit Fenix prodigy, there are a ton of water cooling possibilities.

TTL does a pretty good job going through everything about the case as well as its water cooling capabilities.

If you want to get straight to the water cooling talk:

Edit: It seem this guy is also doing something similar:

I have to say I am a fan of the prodigy. I got a good look at it at Computex and it lives up to the buzz. Just look around OCN There are several threads about it.

most of the threads i see where the Prodigy is talked about, its flooded with sugo fanboys who give no credible information about what makes that case better. one guy in another thread posted a video about silverstones fans which to me, looked like a slow turning fan that was able to suck the fog or smoke into a thick cloud. of course any slow moving fan can do that which proves nothing.

thanks for some insight guys, keep it coming!!!!

prodigy is a liquid case. pure and simple. from an air cooling point of view, it's not too bad, but a silverstone will deliver that level of performance at 2/3 the size biggrin.gif I supposed the question you need to ask yourself is WHY are you going to ITX in the 1st place? if you are doing it for size reasons, do realize the prodigy's external dimensions is that of a mATX case. ITX case is "supposed to be smaller" personally i'm a fan of the SG08. so my comments will be prejudiced from that point of view.

i dont plan on doing any SLI configs and i dont need all the extra slots. ITX seams to be the more practical way to go for my needs. i dont mind the taller Prodigy case because i want hot air to rise up and out the case and you cant really fit the H100 in the sugo cases that i have seen. 150 CFM 230mm fan up front will cool better than a 120mm 30 CFM fan right? more cool air into the case will keep things nice and cool right?

i do like the SG07 though. very stylish minus the cramped space and double the price. maybe ill take a look at the SG07.

you really should look harder before making a claim like that smile.gif it's long been proven that the most powerful ITX rigs have been built on SG05/SG07 chassis. smile.gif the SG05 can fit a 680gtx while the SG07 can fit 690gtx... both with PSU's strong enough to power anything you'd be able to fit into the chassis. you may want to do some searching in this thread before saying the silverstone fans give no credible information biggrin.gif your own ignorance and refusal to look things up is your own downfall... has nothing to do with the credibility of what has been built in silverstone cases.

better is a relative term. in the realm of SFF cases, generally speaking "smaller while retaining the same capability" is considered "better" a SG07 is more then capable of overclocking an ivybridge while supporting a 690 GTX. i have no doubt that prodigy is able to do that, but at the cost of a larger case. from the point of view of a SFF case. smaller is generally considered better. as far as proof. just look in the SFF section and you will find people HAVE built overclocked ivybridge machines with 690GTX in a SG07/SG08 case. if you are able to find an ITX machine that is more powerful then those spec's.... then you know something most of us commoners don't biggrin.gif if the build is exactly the same (w/o any thermal issues) then the only thing left to judge "better" would be styling, decibel level, and size. and SG08/SG07 is able to compete favorably with prodigy in all 3 categories.
