Need Some New Headphones for Desktop and Laptop

Thread Starter
Hi all. I browsed around a little and didn't really see anything about this so I think I'm good. tongue.gif

So I'm in the market for some new headphones, I've got some Logitech G930s but I'm less than pleased with them and I'm pretty certain that one of the speakers is blown in them. My plan is to get a new set of headphones now and RMA the G930s to sell when they get back. Then I can buy a new soundcard or something else that I might need.

Budget: $250 is the ABSOLUTE max I can spend right now. After the G930s are gone I should have a little more, maybe even sooner than that.

Music: Everything but country. I listen to mostly rap, rock and electronic, but I can't rule anything out.

Perks: Uh, I don't really know what impedance is. Bass is pretty good I guess, and I will be gaming on them...

Other Products: Onboard sound. No amp or anything.

Use: I need them to work on both my desktop and my laptop which means they will be traveling with me. Both have onboard sound right now but I can get a soundcard for the desktop and I think that USB soundcards are a thing. I'll use them for everything, gaming, music, movies, etc.

Location: US, I buy from Newegg and Amazon a lot. eBay works too. Pretty much any reputable site if they are a good deal. biggrin.gif

I've been looking around a little and found these HD 598s that look pretty nice but I don't really know if they are. I'm gonna need some help with headphones, a mic and a soundcard if it is really gonna be that important. If I didn't explain something let me know. Thanks in advance. thumb.gif

Rap, rock, electronic? I would say Ultrasone HFI-580 or PRO550 for starters.

Beats? I'm not the audio expert but I'm pretty sure there's better bang for the buck than Beats.

Thanks for all the input so far. I have listened to a pair of Beats and I was not too impressed with it for the price. It seems like I could get a lot better headphones with the money I would spend on those. tongue.gif

As for the PRO550s they look like they are highly recommended for what I want to do so I'll have to look into them some more.

Do any of you carry around headphones all the time and have any suggestion as to how to keep them from getting destroyed? Thanks.

With my actually decent pair of headphones (Superlux HD668s) I don't take them to class...though I'm thinking I might. But I do wonder that as well. My crappy pair I just threw in my backpack so I'm not the one to ask. redface.gif

I NEVER move my full-sized headphones. That's how you get stuff destroyed. I have in-ears for portable applications.

^OP: You should check that out and possibly see what the more audio knowledgeable members have to suggest.

Since he listens to rap tongue.gif them headphones were made for rap music

I can make a painting that's meant to be hung in a museum, but that doesn't mean whatever I churn out is going to be museum quality. Understand? Beats are horrible headphones. Extremely overpriced. Not even good for what they're targeted at.

As for the PRO550s they look like they are highly recommended for what I want to do so I'll have to look into them some more.
Do any of you carry around headphones all the time and have any suggestion as to how to keep them from getting destroyed? Thanks.
I NEVER move my full-sized headphones. That's how you get stuff destroyed. I have in-ears for portable applications.

This.

I recommend the Ultrasone Pro 750s or the 550s with a good sound card.
