Hey guys, I've recently been biten by the custom pc bug again, and i've seen some truly awesome rigs on this site, so I was wanting to pick your brains a little on cooling a older Pentium D build I just did for practice. (Been awhile since I built a computer, last one was a pentium III tualatin!!!) Now, what I was wondering is what is a appriote idle temp for a stock D 945 with a aftermarket cooler?
I am running a artic cooler freezer 7 as seen here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134 that I picked up at the time of the build on sale. It had good reviews and seemed capable of cooling the cpu fine, but the cpu idles at 54 to 56C and that seems a little high to me. I used the rice method of applying grease, and seated it twice to ensure it would have good coverage but remain thin. I am running an open case right now until the new case gets here from newegg so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
So is 56C too hot for idle? Or should I look into a new cpu cooler?
