You do know this is OVERCLOCK.net right? Let me know how much extra MHz you can squeeze out of that G530.

Huh?

Do you know how many CPUs my motherboard supports? Here's a list for you to ponder... FX / Phenom II / Athlon II / Sempron 100 Series

Let me know when you can buy more than one or two generations of CPUs for your motherboard from Intel. Cost savings is huge with AMD.

All I know is I hope Vishera is a huge surprise and outperforms even expectations. For once Id like to see AMD and Intel neck and neck again.

The problem I see mostly is that AMD doesnt use any of their budget to market to consumers so they can't gain marketshare very easily

... you do realize that most of the stuff contributing to SB's high IPC compared to AMD is cut out of the Celeron models, right? With double the cores, higher single-thread performance STOCK (yes, that's right; the 4100 scores around 1.0 in single-thread Cinebench R11.5 at stock; can't find any single-thread G530 results but with both cores it scores 1.83... you figure it out), and an easy 30% overclock whereas the G530 can't OC, you'd be glad to spend the extra $40 on a 4100.

Plus, certain mobos dating back to 2010 can run a 4100 and then you still have room to upgrade to a 4300 (or an 8350 for that matter). If you bought a G530 + H61 board in 2010 your only upgrade route unless you go for a higher-end SB is IB (I hear IB doesn't really like H61 though I could be wrong on that).

If PileDriver takes a spot where the Phenom II chips sat when Lynnfield and Bloomsfield were the king platforms, i.e < $200 chips that rock at Price / Performance then AMD will make a comeback.

They might put Phenom II into its grave. I believe we will see them at > $200 price mark as everyone is buying up the Phenom II's right now to prepare for a possible "Bulldozer". I'm planning my new build around a FX-8300 if they are faster then Phenom II in single thread performance.

Definitely, unless you knew for sure you were upgrading the CPU within a year or two you're better off going for the AMD rig. My FX-4170 @ 4.7Ghz is much closer than most people would think to my girlfriends 3570k @ 4.4Ghz, hers is obviously a lot faster but unless I'm benching it's not that easy to tell the difference with the exact same single GPU card at 1080p.

Nope. Steamroller is rumored to bring a gigantic platform overhaul with it in early 2014; Piledriver will still use 990FX/990X/970.

I was wondering as I was holding off on replacing one of my boards ( an older 790x gigabyte board ) It's front USB ports no longer work .
It looks like I might as well buy a current board . It runs a 1090T and 8 gig ram and it all works on current boards - so looks like I'll get a second Sabertooth .
If they were bringing out new boards I would wait .
