Pretty much all games have only one heavily utilized thread. Doesn't matter how multithreaded you make it... single core throughput will always be king in gaming workloads.

Yet AMD never got the chance to actually finish tweaking it in 32nm form,Piledrivers should fix some of the issues AMD didn't iron out with PD. Bulldozer didn't fit into 40nm correctly or run acceptable enough to release,so they waited until 32nm. The FX 8 core runs hot once you get it to 4.5,just think how hot a 40nm BD would be.

I hope Piledriver chips start off very cheap because by the time it comes out, Sandy Bridge will be even cheaper by that point. Ivy Bridge will continue to hold the performance crown.

If PD's increase over BD is really only 15-20%, my i5 2500K which I bought back in early 2011 will still be more or less equal in gaming (overclocks considered) and most tasks that aren't heavily multi-threaded.

Shouldn't have to. Due to their design, most games only care about how much raw power 2-3 cores can put out instead of 6-8 hyperthreaded/weak ones.
