Am I stupid, or is there no "right" optical mouse out there?

So I am on an annoying journey... I have had a G9X for a few years, which I think is honestly a really good mouse. Problem is I am a mid/low sens FPS player and I do feel the accel inconsistencies. I know a hard mat would help... I don't want to use a hard mat, I don't like the resistance and they don't last very long. Ok, so that leaves me with a mouse with an optical sensor with no prediction/ no accel that will work properly on a cloth mat, one that I can use a claw grip on.. I mean who wants a palm grip mouse for FPS gaming? Not me. Cost: Really no object, I mean under 100 dollars would be in my budget and not many escape that price ceiling...

DA: I really don't like razer but this mouse seems to have a good sensor, not very claw grip friendly... O and LOD is pretty excessive
G400: Great mouse, great sensor now that it has no prediction... Not a fan of the ergo style grip at all, very hard to hold other than palm
CM Storm Spawn: Pretty much a claw mouse ground up, not a fan of the ring finger rest at all... very hit or miss with jitters, bad perfect control speed?
CM Xornet: Same shape issue as Spawn obviously... sensor seems to excel over spawn in some ways just to fail in others, bad perfect control speed?
Zowie AM: Good shape for claw but very stiff mouse 1 and 2 switches... Zowie seems to have horrible QC and their low lod seems to be at the sacrifice of some serious tracking issues.
Zowie EC2 eVo: Same issues as AM but even worse, very QC problem ridden, very normal to have tracking concerns at this early stage of them
IE 3.0/WMO/1.1 and the likes: Great sensors, shape different on each obviously but mostly the low DPI with no switching wont work for day to day computer use with a multi-monitor setup.

Yeah... I basically want a G400 with a G9x shell, to much to ask? I really really like the AM and ec2 eVo but dang, people have a lot of problems with these, I mean I have accel issues now but at least I NEVER loose tracking completely like these seem to do.

It pains me to say I feel like the deathadder with a tape fix is probably my best choice, even though its definitely not a super claw friendly mouse its not as particular in the way it wants to be held as the shape of the G400.

I feel like I want something that everyone would want... But It seems the market is too focused on the DPI war right now to get anything right. Am I missing a magical mouse somewhere along the lines?

have you checked out the Cyborg R.A.T 7 or 9?

umm... no offense but both of those use laser sensors and horrible ones at that

I had heard that they were pretty solid.. and I wasn't sure if it was optical or laser.. my bad

You might want to check the Roccat Savu or the Razer Abyssus.

Oh, and those prejudices about hard mats... Most of the time they are wrong smile.gif

1) No, the spawn doesn't jitter on most low dpi settings and it has a nice perfect control speed, given that you're using the latest v61 firmware, but it does have a high LOD. (v61 firmware).

2) I don't think there's any major tracking problem with the Zowie AM sensor.

I know you probably don't want to hear this, but lift off distance of most optical mice is "high" because they're using proper hardware to ensure optimal tracking quality. When paired with the common black surface, accuracy and compatibility is generally higher than one using 3rd party solutions that have other side effects on the way specific hardware works. These companies can have the lift off modified via programming, but the result isn't usually pleasing.

Mice like the Intellimouse were built with hardware and designs non standard to the common Avago package required in many of the mice above. G400 has an older custom solution that seems to work decently, at least paired with a lower CPI count.

I'm right there with you. I've been looking for the perfect optical myself to track on cloth because hard pads collect too much dirt/dust where I live and the mouse literally starts sticking to the pad. I don't have those issues with a cloth.

I'd have an optical already if practically every mouse that is coming out or came out recently had fixed DPI settings. Personally I think that's a bunch of BS, as a consumer you should get to change your DPI numbers instead of 4/5 fixed positions when I'll never use more than 2.

Then the ones that do have changeable DPI are all laser mice with acceleration/prediction/quality issues. Pretty frustrated in my perfect mouse hunt right now.

Blame the sensor manufacturer on that part. I'm actually amazed the newer 3090 ROM has more than 2 native steps. Of course a lot of mice do come with software interpolation if you want a "custom" feel.

Which current gen laser mouse has angle snapping enabled by default? ;o

I would say Razer Abyssus (if it doesn't jitter) or wait for the BST mouse.

@tracking and LOD
I think it is trade-off between low LOD and good tracking. The lower the LOD the more likely the tracking gets worse on various surfaces.
