I'd rather have an FX-8120 than a Thuban at this point. They cost about same, but I would consider the FX better because it's faster at the majority of CPU limited tasks I do.

Clock for clock performance is largely irrelevant. Final performance is what counts. More cores, and higher potential clocks usually more than make up for the deficit in IPC. And of course, in things that do use features the Thuban doesn't have (most of my disks are AES encrypted, for example), the FX will destroy them, even in clock for clock performance.

Yes, there are still areas where the Thuban would match or beat the Zambezi, but not enough of them to make it a better deal with how rare Thubans are getting and how heavily discounted the FX line is.

Of course, since I have several i7s (two Bloomfields, a Gulftown, and two Sandies), my urgency to upgrade my 555BE system is not especially great, especially since I only have an AM3 board, not an AM3+.
