Phenom II is comparatively ancient. It's memory controller is poor, it's lacking in modern instruction sets/features, and it wouldn't likely scale well with the die shrink people are clamoring for. Savings in production costs could not justify such an expenditure on a dead-end architecture.

AMD is going about CPU designing in their own way and trying to innovate with a limited R&D budget. Intel has nothing that can touch the APUs right now. BD, in some people's opinion, is sub-par to Intel. That does not mean it is a failure or does not work. My 8120 overclocks much easier than my 1090T, and runs about 5 degrees hotter, if that at load. Win win for me. I don't goto the Intel forums and bash that product, because I don't care.

Still rocking a Phenom II 945 in my HTPC. I don't usually say this about my computer parts...but I love my Phenom II (mostly because it's the only AMD CPU in operation in my house right now).
