Throw loyalty/support out the window. None of these companies care about YOU. They like your money.

I like AMD. I like them a lot....most of the rigs in my house are AMD machines. However as of right now, if your building a PC on the medium and high ends going with Intel will give you better value.

On the low-end AMDs APUs work great. But unless you still have an AMD motherboard, going AMD on a high end build is kinda iffy on value right now.

And the 8150's starting price is less than the processor you compared it to. Your processor isnt worth over 3 times more than a 8120 clocked to 8150 speeds when its not even twice as fast.

Uh, no, the Q9650 only cost $316 as of January 2009.

The Q9650 was launched Q3, 2008, list price $316.

It was launched 3 YEARS BEFORE Bulldozer.

Anyone building a machine today, wouldn't build one with a Q9650, they'd go with a 3770K in that price range.

But if you want to talk about the $200 range, people will go with a 2500K / 3570K over an 8150, 95% of the time.

Phenom II was in many ways the best architecture AMD ever produced.

It was, basically, the architecture that meant that AMD still had a word or two in the microprocessor world, being the first uarch since Athlon64 worth to be bought in terms of price/performance.

Mostly because it was the uarch that finally surpassed Core2 in clock per clock performance, after an Athlon64 iteration and the brand spanking new Phenom 9xxx.

Phenom II wasn't overrated. It wasn't as fast as Core ix architecture, but it showed the world that AMD wasn't dead, after the horrid Phenom mistakes.

The 3.0 GHz Phenom II X4 955 gets beaten by a 3.0 GHz Core 2 Quad Q9650 in almost every benchmark:
Core 2 quad has more cache.

Or maybe, you know, the Phenom II is simply slower clock for clock?

Compare a 2.5 GHz Core 2 Quad Q9300 with a 2.6 GHz Phenom II X4 910. The Core 2 Quad is still faster in most benches, despite being clocked lower.

Basically, the Phenom II came out over 2 years after the Core 2 Quad, and was still slower clock for clock.
