Regarding the used gear, it'd be nice to save some money, but I'm a bit nervous about doing a private sale over the net.

I've only ever bought stuff online from retailers (or arranged in-person private sales through craigslist, etc.) What if the seller doesn't deliver, sends broken gear, etc? I know this could happen with a retailer too, but the fact that so many other people have positive experiences with big online retailers reassures me.

Is there any type of insurance or purchase protection for private online transactions? I know there must be, or else eBay et al. would never have succeeded. I feel a bit silly not knowing about this stuff, but it's just something I've never tried. guiltysmiley.gif
