AeroCool HT102 = Frosty CPU

Thread Starter
I recently switched from the OCZ Tempest to the AeroCool HT102 CPU HS/F. My temps with the OCZ were 28-30 degrees Celcius @ idle, and 39 degrees Celcius MAX @ full load. With the AeroCool, I've been able to drop my temps down to 18-20 degrees Celcius @ idle, and roughly 33 degrees @ Full load (although I havent done any serious testing yet.) I upgraded to the larger cooler because I've started doing some more serious overclocking (as much as the mobo will allow). Also, I have the unit set up in a blow->suck setup with the bottom fan blowing thru to the upper fan which is... sucking. I'm guessing that this would be the reason I am getting the better-than-advertised results, even with my CPU overclocked an extra 400mhz.

Anyhow, I just wanted to make a note that, this is an amazing unit to purchase for anyone looking for top-notch air cooling. BE WARNED! If you do intend to research and eventually purchase this unit, Newegg.com lists the AC HT102 as being compatible with the AM2 socket. IT IS NOT. The only reason I was able to get it to mount to my AM2 proc is that I had changed the mount on my board to a AMD socket 754 style (screw-in, N & S of the cpu) which luckily the hardware came with my OCZ cooler. I would imagine that with a little modification, you'd be able to mount the cooler to a socket AM2 HS support frame. Simply drilling some 1/8" holes in the center of both the top and bottom of the support. This unit comes with mounting hardware for Socket 478 P4, LGA775 P4, A/462 AMD K7, 754 AMD K8.

All-in-all, I was just really blown away by the cooling of this monster unit, and wanted to share the info w/ the rest of the Overclock.net fam. Here is a link to the unit @ newegg.com. If enough ppl are interested in this thread, I'll get some pics up as well.

Nice temps....what kinda vcore do you need to run it at 3.16. I'm doing 3.16 now on my x2 4800, but at 3.2 it starts needing 1.65+ vcore which im not comfortable with.

I'm running the max that my mobo will currently allow... 1.40 which ends up fluctuating from 1.393 to 1.411. I KNOW that I could easily go much higher with this processor and RAM, but 1.4 is the highest setting I have with the current bios. ECS told me that after they get all the more serious bugs worked out of the board/bios, then they plan to increase the performance/overclocking aspects of the board... god I cant wait! But by that time Quad-Core/PCI-E 2.0/DX10/SATA3 will be available with my luck.

Also, as long as you have sufficient enough cooling, dont be afraid to up that voltage. I've read that the dual-core AMD's are pretty much safe at anything under 1.7v as long as you have good cooling. On the other hand, I've read/heard of people going as high as 1.8+ but only with liquid cooling. Remember, lower temps = less resistance, less res. = more sufficient use of voltage, which means higher speeds at lower voltages. I'm pretty sure thats the only reason I was able to hit 3.20 today... left the pc off for a few hours and immediatly after turning it on, I hit 3.202 @ 18'C idle.
