I chose the 7970 because I use the extra 1gb of vram every day. Also I do not like screen tearing so I opted for the Direct CU version, which is the best IMO, because it has 4 display ports. Also it has a massive cooler, which gives it the best cooling of all the 7970's as well. Done deal!
Additionally a 7970 scales better when overclocked. For instance a %20 overclock gives closer to %20 performance increase on a 7970 rather than a 680.

Definitely HD 7970. You could grab a Gigabyte HD 7970 Windforce (1 Ghz) for USD 440. at those prices its really a good deal.

Depends on your games too! Some games like nvidia better....but that 7970 is not a weak card either and the price is good.
Either way you will be rocking some fun!

Both cards are great, but the 7970 will provide better performance.

depends:
The HD7970 will grant you better "raw" performance but the GTX 670 has superior drivers...
It's a choice you have to make, I chose for HD6950's back a while...
Drivers = CRAP
So I switched GTX 560 Ti's in SLI, and everything worked way better...
Make your choice, get performance and some driver hassle, OR get a bit less performance and less driver hassle...
Also: the HD7970 is way hotter, makes more noise and uses more power...
Don't forget these aspects people

7970!
You can pick them up for around the same price as a gtx670, and they are faster then the gx670 as well.
Tiger Direct constantly has deals on 7970 pairing them up with a bunch of free games along with a nice heavy discount.
