If you are overclocking both cards HD 7950 is going to be similar to GTX 670 in perf. IMO the HD 7950 is the best price perf card in the graphics market. Period.

HD 7950 (1025 Mhz) - 69.7
GTX 680 - 71.8

here is a user running the MSI HD 7950 OC at 1050 Mhz core clocks and getting 70+ fps at 1080p in BF3 maxed out.

The MSI HD 7950 OC can be had for USD 310 after rebate from newegg. amazing value for money. thumb.gif

I think 7970 = 680 or quite similiar. its supposed to be its main competitor.

good choice. HD 7950 (1.1 - 1.15 Ghz) can definitely run BF3 at 5760 x 1080 with Ultra settings without MSAA at 40+ fps.

5760 x 1080

BF3 5760 x 1080 4x AA

For just single monitor 1080P gaming, is it worth spending another $80-100 to get a GTX670, or will the HD7950 be plenty?

What do you guys think of the visiontek 7970? It's on sale at microcenter for 369.99, I do want to overclock it and am worried the oem hsf will not be adequate. Is there a cost effective 3rd party cooling solution for this?

I originally wanted to wait for a deal on the 670 but this one seems pretty nice for the amd. Any opinions on that particular card. Thanks in advance.

HD 7950 OC is more than enough. These cards can easily run at 1 Ghz at stock voltage in AMD CCC. You won't need anything more than that. MSI HD 7950 OC is a good option for USD 310 after rebate

Thanks for the quick reply, I would much rather put that $90 in to a new fully modular PSU. I am wondering though with the upcoming release of the GTX660, do you think now is a good time to buy a HD7950, or are prices expected to change?

Well, the GTX 670 is better, just slightly, than a 7970. But, for extra vRam, I have to say go with the 7970. I would get a 4 GB 670, for that many monitors, as even 3 gb might not be enough. Will you gaming on all the monitors? And, the 7950 price wont go down much, if at all, I am sure. And, if (BIG) OC, (Get the twin frozr for big oc), the 7950 will beat a 670.
