Oveclocking intel core2 duo issues

Thread Starter

I am a begginer at overclocking, and have come to a stable frequency of 3600Mhz, however I am afraid, that I will destroy my memory modules if I go any further, because I cannot change CPU clock ratio, but I have to overclock my CPU with the FSB instead, thus raising memory frequency at the same time. (My memory clock for my RAM is 800Mhz but I overclocked it to 900.)
I tried to change SPD (memory multiplier) but it won't go lower as it is now (2.0) so thats why I just left it at auto.
I heard that overclocking ram is quite dangerous buissness, especially for those without coolers.
I would like to know, if I should rather stop at this frequency or if there is any other way of reducing the risk of destroying my memory modules.

Please help.

As you raise your clocks you need to also adjust the system memory multiplier (on the BIOS screen you posted) to compensate.

Yes, but in my case the memory multiplier doesn't go lower than 2.0 (in this case auto function already set the memory multiplier to the lowest possible value - 2)
But because this doesn't go lower I would like to know whether there is any other options other then system memory multiplier that would lower the posibility of burning RAM modules.
Would lowering RAM voltage maybe change anything?

Sorry I missed that about your memory muliplier in your OP. You wont damage your RAM by running it too fast. You could damage it by over volting it too much, but you can raise the volts slightly. Under volting it won't help, it will just make your RAM unstable.

I don't remember the DS3 having a multiplier under 1:1.

This is why they made faster DDR2.

I guess you may want to do some testing with the RAM, see what the highest you can get it to and work your way up to it.

Happens I guess;)
I think I'll leave the voltages at auto.. thats probably the best thing to do for now.
Thanks man!

Okay, I'll just try how far it goes and we'll see how much It'll withstand.
thank you for your help:)

No intel 775 have multipliers less than 1:1.

Honestly you need some 1066 RAM if you're going to do this right.

Otherwise, you need to decrease your multiplier, keep raising FSB and tweak your RAM settings for stability. Use Prime95 Blend to test. It's going to be a combination of more RAM voltage and looser timings. And you might kill it now or later 'cause typically RAM doesn't enjoy overclocking.
