Is my PSU powerful enough?

Hey guys, I have crashes when gaming with my GTX 680 and I am trying to determine the problem in the system as to if its the GPU or not. I have ruled everything out other than if its caused by the PSU.


System specs:

Intel I7 3930K at 3.2GHz (Runs at 4 in most games)
16GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator Ram
256GB Crucial M4 SSD
1TB Seagate HD
EVGA GTX 680 OC
Sabertooth X79 MB
Corsair TX 850W PSU v2

Im using Win 7 64bit

I was told when purchasing the PSU and looking around that 850w would be enough for this sytem, but I have crashes on games, as I said, may just be GPU.

To the OP, you could run a 3930k and THREE GTX680s at stock clocks ofcourse, off of that 850w unit.

So obvioulsy there is another problem, besides not enough power. PSU could be faulty. Possible bad cable extentions if you use them. Possibly a bad GPU.

What kind of crash is it? Bsod, freezing, driver recover?

What do you mean by "(Runs at 4 in most games)"? Does your motherboard automatically adjust the clock speed or is it some kind of turbo? If it's the motherboard overclocking the CPU, I believe that could be the problem. Also, the PSU is plenty for that system.

Definitely not the PSU. Your GPU, is that stock OC or did you OC? Go back down to normal specs and see if stable.

Hey guys thanks for all the responses, the GPU is OC from the factory (EVGA)

Games will crash or will get error saying NVIDIA Kernal Mode Driver has crashed and recovered

Unfortunately I have to go through task manager to close the applications when it does this. I have gone through all options and am almost sure it must be a GPU issue at this point, guess its time to send it off.
