SSD Advice

I'm looking to install a SSD in my PC and I'm not exactly sure what to go for. I don't need the most cutting edge SSD on the market, but one that is reasonably priced and performs well and will be long lasting. I don't need anything over 120GB or so since I have plenty of regular HDD space for storage. I just want enough for Win7, games and other applications.

My PC is a little bit older but still runs like a champ. I think the thing most holding it back these days is the old platter HDD's I'm running. I've got an overclocked Q6600, 4GB RAM, GTX480, and a Asus P5W Deluxe or something or other motherboard. I'm not sure if my mobo can handle the full read/write speeds of an SSD. I'm not really looking to rebuild my entire PC, hence why I'm looking for a simple hard drive upgrade to hold me over for a while. Any thoughts on a solid model and installation help with an older motherboard?

Dont worry about not being able to run it at 6GB/s, you'll still see a massive performance increase running at 3GB/s. 6GB/s only really makes a difference when transferring very large files.

The Intel SSD's are the top-of-the-line proudcts (520 in particular) and they are very reliable yet very fast though they cost a lot. In my opinion (and I'm sure, many OCN'ers) the Samsung 830 and the Crucial M4, along with the Plextor M3, are all great SSD's which have around the same performance and reliability. I have a Samsung 830, Crucial M4, and a Vertex 2 Extended - my favorite is the Samsung 830 because it has the best performance for the reliability and not to mention it looks oh so sexy smile.gif

Sweet, thanks for the suggestions.

Is installing windows 7 on an SSD the same as a regular HDD or does it require some extra tinkering with the BIOS?
