I've got some questions about Folding

So I am planning to invest in a second GTX 570 for my PC. I game maybe 3-5 hours a day (too much time on my hands) but I want to allow the other hours to be filled with folding smile.gif.


My plan is to have one of the 570s run 12-16 hr a day folding with the other folding when I am not playing games. I will not be using SLI for the games I play. Is this possible and what would the expected PPD be?

I know calculating the specific PPDs will be complicated, I do know how to use the rep button.

Yeah its possible, you can pause your GPU folding and start it again when you're finished gaming. GTX 570 should get 16k-21k PPD depending on work unit. So for 12 hours would be 8k-10k, about the same as I get from my 24/7 folding rig.

A single 570 at a decent OC (900-930Mhz) will do up to 26k ppd depending on the WU.

With the v7 client, you can just pause the client running on your primary card when gaming, or if you use the older v6 client just close it.

Yeah, I have a watercooled GTX570 that runs at 915MHz and is netting me about 25k PPD when it folds 24/7. I personally prefer GPU Tracker V2 for my nVidia cards, you can just stop the client any time then just restart as you please. My 570 is in my main rig, so I shut it down when I'm doing graphically heavy stuff (video editing, gaming, etc.), but outside of that, I let it fold. Any of the clients should default to a "Low" priority, so you can leave them open and folding while you do most things (using Office, web browsing, etc), but they can still cause lag when you're doing graphically intensive stuff, so you should just pause/stop them, then restart when you are done.
