Another thread of which PSU

Thread Starter
lets cut to the chase, Corsair AX850 vs Seasonic X760 ?

System:
3570k Overclocked (not going beyond 4.5Ghz)
Sapphire HD 7950 OC 950Mhz edition Overclocked (this card comes on a 7970 pcb, i.e. 6+8pin, overclocks up to 1200mhz on air if lucky but usualy above 1100)
HDD and a SSD
a few fans (who hasn't any?)

now before you will say either of these options is overkill, Firstly i want to mention that i want a PSU with space to expand (i.e. go CrossFire one day, or a future gpu that will require a lot of power or dual gpu).
Secondly, as far as i understood in my (long) research, Power Supplies reach their Maximum efficiency at 20%, 50% and 100% of load. Obviously i won't be running at 100% load nor 20%, so i wish to use my PSU at 50% load. (which is why i am asking you, the Magical OCN Community, what will be the power consumption of the described system)

Additionally, the difference between the two is about ~48$ but the SS one has only 3 years of warranty while the Corsair one has 7. Plus the Corsair one has the "Black Cabelz!!!", which i like myself very much. (there are no extensions available for purchase in my country frown.gif )

Because the 3570k uses so little power, the Seasonic x760 is more than enough for crossfired 7950s.

I also like the black cables of the ax series, that's why I have one!

Can of worms = Opened. The notion of buying PSU's to run them at 50% is asinine.

What site(s) are you buying from?

Corsair for warranty.

You wont be needing 850w for sli or cfx. Tri sli and tri fire will use that power.

If you want, go for the ax 750. Same amount of warranty( i think)

if so, what would be the power draw of the above system?

i thought this was OCN no?

and the sites i'm buying aren't US based, i live in Israel. in here a lot of things, if they can be, will be overpriced anyway. the X760 is just cheap in here. (~190$)

the difference between the AX850 to the 750w version is ~25$ and (IMO at least) negligible. (am i right on this?)

Indeed it is, that's why we know better than to swallow without chewing marketing graphs like the one you're quoting. wink.gif

Search "the 50% load myth" and give it a read, if you have questions afterwards bring them here. smile.gif

450w maximum, that's with extreme overclocks. I might even be over-estimating.

By that notion, I should go spend $350 on a 1500w PSU so I can be at 50% efficiency. You are talking a very marginal (2%) difference in efficiency here, nothing large (especially on a good PSU).

Yes this is OCN, That's why you are being given correct advice.

That was informative (and refreshing too). Thanks on that one thumb.gif
(btw, a link for others)

after i got that behind, could you tell me what would be the power draw of the suggested system?

now the competition is between the AX750 to the SS X760. (the AX750 is ~32$ more expensive)

Edit:
