[Scratch Acrylic Case] Project Diamond

Thread Starter
Alright guys, this project has been an idea of mine for ages and today I finally got started.

The idea?

To make a Diamond Shaped case out of acrylic.

Sounds pretty simple right? Well, it depends on how you look at it. In your eyes you might just say cut a few pieces and slap it together... But not in my eyes. When I look at a piece of acrylic I see thousands of possibilities and it's taken me this long to decide on how I want this case to turn out.

I would love to sit here and tell you how I plan to build this but I feel that will spoil all the fun, so I plan to just fill you guys in as I build it. I don't plan to have it finished any time soon because I don't want to rush things and make a mistake that will cost me a fortune or make me unhappy with the results.

I will however disclose my goals which will at least give you guys an idea of whats to come.
First I plan to build a mock up for the case so i can make sure everything I plan to use in the case will fit properly. I still need an acrylic guy who knows what they are doing. I may even end up doing it myself. I just don't have the time nor the tools on hand to do all the work. In the mean time I need to try to get sponsors for parts. I am a college student who will be working part time or try to keep my full time job. I would really appreciate the help as it would speed up the process a whole lot more.

The really cool thing about this build is that the side panel.... is the reservoir! There will be liquid flowing through the lines of the diamond.

Hardware:
ASUS Rampage IV Extreme LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX
Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 2011 130W Quad-Core
Corsair Dominator 1866mhz 2x2gb (4 sets of these for 16 gigs)
ASUS GTX670-DC2-2GD5 GeForce GTX 670 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 (I used to have a 4870x2 by ASUS and loved it so I am going back. Might get two of these or just a 690)
Corsair Force Series GT 2.5" 240GB SATA III (Two in Raid 0)
CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX850 Fully Modular (Surprises in store for the sleeving biggrin.gif)
Sony Optiarc Black 4.8X BD-ROM 8X DVD-ROM 24X CD-ROM SATA Slim Internal For an awesome Murderbox look.

8-22-2012 - Project Put on Hold

Sponsors

I am looking for sponsors here guys. I have plenty of experience in modding just not the funds! I do this is my freetime and I try to squeeze it in at work (currently on works network haha). Looking for Corsair, ASUS, and EK sponsor!

So far:
Lazerwerx - http://www.lazerwerx.com/ In the future.

Original Parts list:
LGA 2011 chip
ASUS Rampage board
16gb of Corsair Dominator ram
GTX 680 (possibly more if the budget is there but I have no use for more than one)
Two 240gb corsair GT SSD's raid 0 of course
Corsair 850AX fully modular PSU
All 140 Corsair case fans.

I ran into a problem recently with the fans. I was planning on buying the static pressure fans for the radiators but those dont come in 140mm. So I either have to find new fans or use the high performance ones. Looking at these Phanteks 140mm red fans.

So anyways, I will stop talking and start posting pictures.

7/22/2012 Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Here is the basic layout but this is only a rough sketch that I tried to do with photoshop and with that I leaned the case would need to be a 20inx20in case.

I was not trying to be artsy here with these photos. I guess I'm just a natural haha.
This is the first cut out of my mock build using foamboard. I plan on using 1/4in acrylic but they only carried 3/16 and 1/2 in at the store. So some adjustments will need to be made.

Keep in mind I share a room with a 12 year old. Half the **** in here isn't mine.

Thats all for now. Ask any questions you may have.

Also big news! I got my first sponsor!

Lazerwerx has offered to do all the acrylic cutting! Thanks again man and guys check out some of his awesome work.

UPDATE (8/7/2012): Okay, so it has been a little while and I have this all sketched out with dimensions. The next step is to build it in auto cad and see if any changes might want to be made.

Here are scans of what I sketched but not all of it is exact except for dimensions.

C is blank since I didn't know what the exact measurement would be depending on angles and ect.

Alright so this might need some explaining. The side panel is going to be acting as the reservoir. In order to obtain this and the look I want the panel will require three layers of acrylic. Starting from the left is a clear 1/8th sheet that will act as the outer barrier. In the middle there will be cut pieces of acrylic that will be sealed and sandwiched together by the 1/4th piece. The pieces that will be cut can be found on the G -Side panel page. There is a edge piece that will seal the edge and the triangles. After this is all said and done I will have created a custom reservoir in the path of a diamond outline.

I am just waiting on the availability of AutoCad so that I may start this ever so awesome project.
Ideas? Suggestions? Comments? Please I would love some input since this being my first time working with acrylic. I am still shaken on the assembly of this.

UPDATE (8/8/2012): I now have a list of fittings that I need and a slight idea of how I want to make this loop. I have made two and the second one is something I have never done so I am not sure if it is possible, yet it is preferred since it provides a cleaner look.

So after looking at Option 2 I noticed a big mistake so I have revised it and now im liking it even more.

I also have a parts list! Yay! I have had it for a while now but I have been having to make slight changes but I don't want to keep you guys handing.

Hardware:
ASUS Rampage IV Extreme LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX
Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 2011 130W Quad-Core
CORSAIR DOMINATOR GT 4GB DDR3 1866 (Ordering 8 for a total of 32gb)
ASUS GTX670-DC2-2GD5 GeForce GTX 670 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 I might get two of there or a 690.
Corsair Force Series GT 2.5" 240GB SATA III (Two in Raid 0)
CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX850 Fully Modular (Surprises in store for the sleeving biggrin.gif)
Sony Optiarc Black 4.8X BD-ROM 8X DVD-ROM 24X CD-ROM SATA Slim Internal

As you can tell there is no water cooling parts. Still in the process of fine tuning my radiator/ fan selection.
