A nice laptop for around 800$

post #1 of 10
Thread Starter
Hey guys, I am looking for a decent gaming laptop for around 800$.

I am hoping to be able to play games such as GW2 on decent settings with a nice frame rate.

If anyone has any recommendation please link me smile.gif

Thanks.

don't rush into buying a laptop you plan on keeping for a long time smile.gif

a good start would be here

http://www.ibuypower.com/IbpPages/Laptop.aspx
i bought my PC from there in 2008 it still going strong, i linked you to there laptop page

and this is there competitor
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/category/notebook/

both make extremely good gaming laptops and i don't think you can find anything better than what they offer (my opinion)

I would look to Sony's outlet currently
Tons of well priced deals on last season VAIOs.

Example:
VAIO S series
* Battery : Internal lithium polymer battery (4400mAh)
* Processor : Intel® Core™ i7-2640M processor (2.80GHz / 3.50GHz with Turbo Boost)
* Color : Black
* Display : 15.5" LED backlit Full HD display (1920 x 1080)
* Graphics : AMD Radeon™ HD 6630M (1GB) hybrid graphics with Intel® Wireless Display technology
* Backlit Keyboard : LED Backlit Keyboard
* Operating System : Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit
* Memory : 4GB (4GB fixed onboard + 1 open SDRAM slot) DDR3-SDRAM-1333
* Hard Drive /Solid State Drive : 750GB (5400rpm) hard drive
* 1 Year Factory warranty

815.88 After Tax (WA State 6%)/Shipped for a brand new i7 laptop with a magnesium body and a 1080p screen.
Tempting myself to grab one but warranty coverage in Canada is nada. I'd have to bring it down to the states for any in warranty service/

I think Ibuypower has some nice machines, however I think there are better deals out there from what I have read.

I'm going to look into Sony. Would you say those specs would run GW2 smoothly? Or other graphic intensive games? ( can't really think of any on the top of my head)

I just ordered a dv6z-7000 from HP. AMD A10-4600M + HD7730m for ~$650. I'm guessing it will play GW2 fine, I can run benchmarks on it once I get it (should be later this week).

I used the 25% coupon when it was available. There's another one now for an additional $150 off a $999 laptop. You can get the A10-4600M + HD7730M with the 1080p screen and backlit keyboard option for $750 (you need the additional options to be able to use the coupon).

The laptop with the i7 and GTX660m would be much faster, but would run significantly hotter and get less battery life judging from the impressions I've read.
