So i've Been thinking of buying a 690 but honestly im mot impressed of 2gb of vram per gpu. I roll with a 27" monitor of 2560x1440 res and IF u look at benchmarks of that res on texture demanding games such as modded skyrim and metro, the 7970 on crossfire beat the 690&680sli! I cant think this beingg caused By anything else but 7970's 3(or was it 4?) GB of gddr5? anyone else thinking nVidia should add 2 more GB of gddr5 to the 690? Im starting to think they just want my money and that 2gb of gddr5 will be the bottleneck in future and the reason u must buy the 790 in 2 years!

Games like Metro 2033, Crysis Warhead benefit from HD 7970's bandwidth and not VRAM. And Skyrim with mods will definitely cross 2GB VRAM usage. So your options are GTX 670 4GB SLI, GTX 680 4GB SLI or HD 7950 3GB CF, HD 7970 3GB CF .

Yep, the gtx690 doesn't have enough Vram at that resolution.

I Wonder why they wont add more vram to gtx 690.. Anyone know IF nVidia is planning vram upgrade to 690? BTW thanks for the fast replies! I guess i will be better off with 7970 cf then! Too bad ive heard 7970 cf can be buggy.. Kind of scared of using crossfire; you guys agree?

Well, the ASUS Mars III will have 4gb of VRAM per GPU, and much better cooling than a 690. Unfortunately, it will most likely be ridiculously expensive and only 1000 of them will be made.

I would go 4GB, but I have no problem with my Reference 670's. I'm sure they don't perform as well as the 4gB Versions, but it's no stuttering @ all. Also games tend to use what memory that is available. Like I've seen Battlefield use 2500MB of Ram on 1080P with 7970's. Same settings will only use up to 1400MB's on 670's. I had three 670's & it was better with three than two. Check around & do as much research as you can, but 4GB or 3GB cards would be the way to go... Like this guy here.... He is playing @ 2560x1600

It would be a miracle if Nvidia made a 690 with 8GB of ram. Those cards will be made by companies such as Asus & MSI. Those cards will be costly & limited. Two Sapphire 7970's are $840 right now & they're great cards. I've never had a bug with Nvidia & I've had Sli 448's, 580's & 670's.
