They are just tools to do tasks folks, use the one (or ones) that work best for you thumb.gif

Ha! I have a compute repair shop and I get the occasional mac. A lot of them require me to use a pair of suction cups so that I get pull it apart. A lot of the time, they are put together with some extremely strong double sided tape.

Also, I don't like mac because I cannot play very many DirectX games on this... biggrin.gif

I'll bite.

I'm a developer. This year we started developing iPad apps. And compared to .NET and Java, Apple's development tools are absolutely horrible. Keep in mind this list is from a development workstation perspective, not for a home user who just wants to check Facebook and look at lolcats.
  • Random crashes and kernel panics. You have to restart a Mac way more often than Windows.
  • XCode is the most unstable application I have ever used. I'm doing good if I can go a whole day without having it crash or having to Force Quit it. The worst part is Apple's hypocrisy, XCode is distributed on the App Store and violates so many things in Apple's guidelines that Apple would surely use against me if my product was that way.
  • Simple things, i.e. refactoring and search, just don't work and are more likely to crash XCode than actually do what you want.
  • XCode's debugger is awful and unstable. Want to add a value to a variable and see how your app reacts? Well guess what, myDoubleVar + 0.5 will probably make XCode crash.
  • Objective-C is a difficult language with lots of gotchas and many little ***s that Apple can't explain away and just tells you to live with it. Constructors must return self? Despite being required, if that somehow gets forgotten/removed XCode will happily compile and let you run the app, but then you get EXC_BAD_ACCESS. No other language I've used even lets you compile a non-void method that never returns anything.
  • The Cocoa/Objective-C (or whatever it's properly called) runtime rarely gives you meaningful error messages (EXC_BAD_ACCESS at the top stack frame 90% of the time)
  • Apple's marketing getting ahead of the technology. Do you think the iPad HD is faster than the iPad 2? Nope, exact same hardware but with way more pixels, meaning it's actually slower in many cases. A feature on our app that requires a bit of graphics power seems instant on the iPad 2, but on the iPad HD it takes nearly 10 seconds.
  • If you want a good laugh, look up XCode on the App Store. Look how many stars its rated and read some reviews. But naturally Apple's anti-competitive practices means there are no viable alternatives to XCode on a Mac if you want to develop for anything that starts with a lowercase "i".

Yes other company's have patents too and use them but none use them to the extend Apple does with its generic common use patents that they didn't even invent...

Yep. They completely cripple and attempt to monopolize the tech areas they venture in. Patent trolling should be a heavily fine-able offense. I will definitely admit they make some pretty sweet hardware, but they also cripple that hardware by placing limitations on it which instantly just makes it lesser imo. Windows is also the primary gaming platform supported by devs, which happens to be what overclocking is typically used for since we want the best quality and fps. Obviously that makes OCN a biased community, but we also definitely have realistic complaints when it comes to hardware limitations and just hating them in general for making it very difficult for other companies to thrive and provide us with even better tech.

They added 4 times as much pixels and added 4 times as much graphics power its the exact same speed but I agree with you about XCode it is one of the worst.
