[GSMA] Dead Trigger is now free on Android, devs blame rampant piracy on Android - Page 4

this makes no sense, i know how to get apps for free but i never do it because i love the android OS and i want to support the developers making content for it.
Most of my friends using android dont even have a clue that they could pirate apps so they are just saying no to a pile of money.

Well, in this case. Not that I pirate games on my phone or anything else, but I've plays this and it seems there's a lot about the micro transactions involved in the game. While I don't condone pirating a game just because (though the demo excuse works) I also don't condone paying for a game that's heavily based on MT's.

First of all Google hasn't made any necessary steps to secure its phone. There .apk format is a joke and can be easily decrypted to open as a new project in eclipse. If you design your app with proprietary code and deploy it in Google Play store, anyone can reuse the code that you used. This is completely atrocious. Android must die soon. The only good Google product is "Google Search" nothing else.

No, but iOS devs are vastly more successful on that platform than Android.

Umm... that's not even remotely true. Yes, APKs are just containers, its no different than the .app format in OSX or the folder structure of Windows.

Android code is compiled just like on any other platform (its just using bytecode instead of machine code since its Java). Using your same logic I could just as easily open up Diablo III.exe in Visual Studio and steal Blizzard's source code.

No. First of all should be that people should be ashamed for using that excuse. If it weren't for ingrates, there would be no need for security.

I'm talking about apps natively made using Java. The project can directly be opened in eclipse. Yes iOS can be directly open just by renaming.ipa to .zip. But you can't do anything than just viewing files like windows applications.

Even if this is true, wouldn't they still make more money in any case if they left it as $1 rather than free?

Not completely but you have to be jail broken.

Nope. See above.

You don't make something free because of piracy, that's just dumb. Why give up on the profits you were getting (cut off your nose to spite your face, comes to mind)? It's almost like the developer is having a temper tantrum.

Plus, how "rampant" is piracy on Android devices, really? I don't think I've encountered one person in my life who pirates software on their phone. I can't imagine the effort to avoid paying $0.99 would be worth it.
It's probably being pirated so much that his profit is incredibly low. Making it free allows everyone to use it (which is basically happening anyway) and you get free advertising of sorts... it's a good game and people will keep an eye out for the second one.
