Then you really dont know what this console is about then. If it has raised 5.4 million bucks on kickstarter it is showing people are interested in this kind of product.

Have they released a shot of the system that doesn't look like a render?

I still don't understand the purpose of this device. There are already cheap Android boxes people could make games for that have very similar internals. You could dock a phone or tablet and hook it to a TV and get the same experience, with better portability and all-round usefulness. People can already do what Ouya will do with a recent phone and a bit of technical know-how, so what about Ouya is going to alter the present state of Android gaming?

5.4 million is chump change in the console hardware business, and a 42000 strong user base is similarly unimpressive. This is a niche product for hobbyists and (if it actually reaches retail) parents who don't want to spring for an real console and figure an Ouya is "just as good".

The Ouya is a neat but not in any way unique box, if it exists, but what it is not is the harbinger of some cheap and cheerful console revolution. It's just another Android box like any other, except it seems to have better PR.

they reached 4million in 8hrs I think that is impressive. Plus this console they want you to hack and mod it. vs other consoles you void your warranty by doing so.

Absolutely not.
Ouya is going to show gamers an entire world of heightened sensibilities. It's going to permeate their lives and show them a better way of living. With the suave and steadfast moxie of Yves Béhar leading the way, I know the world will change for the better.
Before Ouya, I had no idea what true dedication was. What it took to realize a dream and bring it to reality. I was more than happy to sit in my vapid/mundane existence and ignore the world's issues entirely.
But all that's changed with it's inception. For the very second I heard of it's unimaginable strength and possibilities, I was forever a changed man.
Ouya, I stand on guard for thee.

Those catch words all sound nice and make me feel all fuzzy inside, but a console that small is going to have the computing capabilities of a smart phone...

I already have a smart phone so no thank you very much.

If I want a console illl stick with the Xbox to Playstation.

If I feel like playing angry birds on my TV ill use my iPad...

I may have missed the exact point of this underpowered device... Great for developers im sure, but for 99% of the population, I cant see much happening.

for a small team 5.4m is quite a bit, 42,000 user base is a good starting point for the device. personally i think it is just as good as the 360 and the PS3 plus to you can really personalize it as your very own which on a 360 and PS3 your very limited, this though not even close to limitation that dev kit you get to do whatever you want with that console whether you want to learn how it works or you want to really get down into it and make it better software wise then release it within the Ouya community so others can experience it aswell is what makes it a unique console platform.

For some reason, that picture reminded me of this:

berserkopening.jpg

I would buy a console shaped like a Behelit.

I like the idea but I don't see how this will get big. No one knows about it and this small team of developers doesn't have the cash flow to market it. When it comes to gaming, console gaming in particular, $5.4 million will get them next to nothing. The reason why Microsoft and Sony were able to launch their consoles is because they have almost limitless cash flow. To get this to the market, they need the money to advertise it to the masses. The money isn't there so I don't see this going very far. The only reason I like it is because it's based on the Android platform. But at its core, the Android platform is intended for mobile use on a smartphone or tablet. It was never intended for this. I also don't see enough mobile developers being interested enough to make games specifically for this device. They will never get support from the developer community if they can't prove that the general public is interested in a device like this. And I don't see that happening.
