Amazon does have "Free Shipping" (Super Saver) but they will be happy to hold your item at their warehouse for an extra 5 days before shipping it. It's amazing that all they had to do was disassociate the cost of Prime from people's actual purchases and all of a sudden seemingly everyone who paid real money for Prime talks about their amazing "Free" shipping. Prime costs what, $80? That's the most expensive "free" shipping I've ever heard.
Newegg gets items to my house reliably in 2-3 days, with REAL free shipping (aka the kind of "Free" that you don't have to pay for). After September 15th there will be little reason to shop at Amazon over Newegg.

Central Computer has not even been in the ball park price wise for many years. Unless something has changed recently your prices are way more than any of your competitors. I stopped shopping at CC after several bad experiences with the counter help (attitudes). Knowledge wise Fry's does not hold a candle to even your janitors, but price is a different matter. (BTW: I have been shopping at various bay are computer stores for several decades now...)

I strongly believe that you, the Micro Center employees, and your relentless execution of our vision are the most significant reasons why we have almost doubled same-store sales in the last few years. That’s simply remarkable, and you are to be applauded and commended.
It is with that backdrop that I am pleased to announce the largest expansion in the history of our company. Over the next 18 months we will be opening three new high-volume stores, and as leases are finalized I will announce more in the near future.

In late 2012, we will enter the Baltimore market with a 40,000 square foot store near the affluent Towson, Maryland community. This store with beltway visibility and access will feature our latest generation store design that has been so well-received by our customers and employees since its debut in North Jersey.
In mid-2013, we will debut our fourth location in the New York City metro with a 60,000 square foot store in the huge densities of Flushing, Queens. This will be a top performing store in a great urban area close to consumers, businesses and colleges.
Our perfectly-positioned third new store is planned for Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With our latest store design in a 40,000 sq. ft. new build in a new retail destination and with freeway access, we expect a strong, consistent sales performance. These three stores will further cement our dominant position in the Midwest and East Coast.
Along with my excitement for these growth opportunities, it’s with a great sadness that I share with you the closing today of our store in Santa Clara, California. This closing is due to repeatedly unsuccessful attempts to negotiate an economically viable extension of our store lease. I am extremely disappointed with this necessary business decision and the effect on the customers, our company and most of all, our Santa Clara associates.
Because we value our customers, we have set up special arrangements for returns, exchanges, technical support and service for the next several weeks.
I can assure you that we are making a significant effort to retain the Santa Clara employees. But should some make the decision to explore other opportunities, we are providing placement assistance and other generous benefits to ease their transition. I know I speak for our entire company in expressing my deep regret for the effect this has on all the associates, and our wish for their continued success. This closure is in no way a reflection on their performance; we value them as we value everyone on the Micro Center team.
Our business is about serving customers and delivering value, and you, our associates throughout the company are the ones that make it happen. While I am disappointed about our Santa Clara situation, I am gratified with our company’s financial strength and impressive growth in all stores. And now I’m thrilled at the opportunity to provide hundreds of thousands of new customers in new markets our unique shopping experience; the experience that you help provide day in and day out for all our customers.

While I am sad to see them go because there's no comparison between Fries and Microcenter, I do have to say that having been to several Microcenters across the country this was by far the worst one. Don't get me wrong, customer service was great but the store itself was tiny and as a result they never seemed to have what I was looking for on display.
It always surprised me that the Silicon Valley Microcenter of all places was that much worse than say the one in St. Louis. Hopefully a new and better one will open sometime in the future. It's not like they're lacking of customers in the Bay Area.
