MBP 2012 can't control fan speed

Thread Starter
I installed smcFanControl, however the settings won't stay applied to the fan. I will set the speed for, lets say 4500rpm, and the fan will spin up part way, but seconds later drop back down to the stock 3500 rpm. It does this no matter what speed I pick. Any advice?

..

SMC Fan control has been getting less reliable as time progresses. I would say uninstall and reinstall but I don't think that's going to fix it.

set SMC fan control back to default, reset the SMC then then try again

It probably isn't compatible, that's just how it is, the controller on the board is picky and isn't really meant to be manually controlled. It hasn't worked well since 2008.

On the 2012 MBP, the SMC controller has been changed is controlled differently via software. Until an update is made to smcFanControl, you will not be able to control the fan (and why bother? The machine is going to hit hot as hell even with the fans running at max).

Like another person has suggested, SSD Fan Control works with the 2012 MBP. I know, I tried it with mine wink.gif
