[ubergizmo] Quake 5 speculated to be unveiled at Quake Con in August

If you grew up playing FPS games like Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein, Doom and the likes, then the name Quake is probably one familiar to you. Things have been relatively quiet on the Quake front, especially since Quake 4 was launched about 7 years ago, leaving many to wonder about the fate of its successor. Well thanks to a tweet by Evolve PR, a revival of a “beloved classic PC shooter” is expected to be announced at Quake Con this year.

Source

Kind of a stretch if you look at the tweet. Classic PC shooter automatically = Quake 5? Last I heard Doom 4 was next in line.

It would be cool if they could make something that would reignite ultra competitive shooter games...
I heard the next successor to quake was suppose to be a Quake 3 type game, using the id tech 5 engine, i think the proposed name was "Quake Arena"

Can't find that source to save my life however.... lol

Edit: that was about 2 years ago when i read that, here is a source, sort of updated. Not really what i was describing but it was very limited info when i read it, this has much more tongue.gif

I always thought it was intentional that the odd numbers were MP focused and the evens were SP focused.

I would personally be more happy with a return to Quake than Doom, especially if it was to the arena shooter style, but I'm a little wary of id at this point after Rage. One bad game doesn't make a trend however, so I will be keeping a very close eye on what comes in the near future.

Completely agree with this. My worry is they might try to "CoD" it kind of like what they did with Wolfenstein a few years back. RtCW used to also be pretty competitive.
