Mini DisplayPort is made by Apple, so Samsung would have to license it. Although Apple's not charging licensing fees, Apple stated that if a company tries to sue Apple for patent infringement, they can void the license. So... Samsung is probably not allowed to use a mini DisplayPort output.

I didn't know Apple created the Mini DisplayPort standard. Anyway you look at it DisplayPort is the future, in mini or standard form. Mini DisplayPort is just so much more compact and doesn't really have any downsides that I know of. So if Samsung is indeed not allowed to use Mini DisplayPort due to the lawsuits between the two companies then that kind of stinks. I have a hard time believing it because I'd think Samsung would find a way given all the leverage they have in making products that go in Apple devices. I'd also question the legality of preventing a competitor from using a fairly open standard just because the two companies have a legal dispute. Maybe Samsung just isn't willing to make those risks to use Mini DisplayPort. Who knows, this is all speculation, as is some of what you said about the licensing and lawsuits. Thanks for teaching me something I didn't know.

I just got one of these, so far so good. I can't say I would have bought it for myself, but it is a really nice machine. Integration with Windows 8 is quite good with gesture support for edgy, appbar and appswitcher. Since we are on OCN, here are some quick benchies:

wprime 32m: 31.42 seconds
superPi 1m: 22s

Compared with my Dell e6410, i7-620M
wprime 32m: 18.24 seconds
superpi 1m: 13s

RAM speeds are different, 1600MHz 11-11-26-2T for the Series 9
and 1066 MHz 7-7-7-20-1T for the i7-620M

I would test RAM speed but I don't have the time.

If anyone has any questions about this machine and or Windows 8 on it, feel free to drop me a PM.

Cory

This is exactly what I thought.
If there was anything Apple could have patented, it could have been the Air's innards.

This, is actually kind of ripping on Apple's engineering.
I remembering being in awe when I set eyes on the guts of the new air and thinking that that Apple R&D went to good use of space...

Well played though Samsung.
With any hope, they'll avoid a lawsuit on this one.

I'll give it 3 months before Apple find something to sue about on this.

Just bought the 900X4C today, and I'm on it right now. Runs programs so well for the size and looks really sleek. biggrin.gif

Very happy with it.

Why are they using two fans for a 17w CPU only? A GT 620M should be a nice addition to that machine

It's definitely a nice laptop. I would of picked it over the UX31A if it had a PLS/IPS panel. $300 more for a lower resolution TN panel is a turn off.
