AMD - Which CPU?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,
I decided to upgrade my CPU, but I still don't know which one should I get: FX 6100, phenom II x4 1045t, FX 4170, FX 4100 or phenom II x4 965BE? I know, you might say that I should go with Intel, but I don't have enough money to buy a new Mobo so that's not in option now. Also I have an aftermarket cooler (CoolerMaster Hyper 212PLUS) so I can potentially overclock.

The rest of my PC spec:
Case: CM 690 Advanced
MoBo: Gigabyte 990xa-ud3
GPU: gtx 460 SE
PSU: Corsair GS800
RAM: Kingston HyperX 8GB

PS: phenom II x4 960t is not available in my country.

Thank you for your replies!

I'd say wait for the Piledriver CPUs to land, if your willing to wait.

I like my FX-4100, overclocks nicely but in the long run performance wise I think a 1045 would be all around better. Or just pick up another 955 or something in the Phenom II range. With your board though you could easily go with an AM3+ with a bios update and call it a day. You're really in a good place with any of those choices, pick up a solid cooler and go to town.

FX-4100's are 109.99 on Newegg, 3.6 Ghz quad which will last you until Piledriver.

Hi riviera, thumb.gif
Do you really need to buy a processor right away? Because the new piledriver cpus, are due October, so buying bulldozer right now I wouldn't advice, since they will be replaced in about 2/3 months and when the piledriver comes out bulldozer cpu's are bound to drop price a bit.

As for going to a phenom ...well, imo, I don't think they are worth it, yes they are great cpus, but I belive if you check the 1045 price it will be around e same as the fx6100, and all the benchmarks people show, I seriosly don't believe amd created a processor weaker/worse than their previous generation..

So In my opinion if you can wait... Wait and get a fx6300 piledriver, if you can't, get a fx6100, and overclock it.
