Pentium = Lower Clocked i3?

Just quick question. Building my friend a cheap computer for video editing and all that. Figured I'd just do a sandybridge on a micro board with a gt 440 for some GPU acceleration.

Are the pentium sandybridges just a lower clocked version of an i3? Or should I just go for an i3?

ALso an H61 board do okay for this set up?

Taking reccomendations.

what's your cheap price range? you can probably build i5 rig for about $500.

Sandy Bridge Pentiums lack hyper-threading (which SB i3's have), and come with a tiny little cooler: http://www.anandtech.com/Show/4524/the-sandy-bridge-pentium-review-pentium-g850-g840-g620-g620t-tested.

I'd stretch to that extra $10 and get the dual-core G530
I think when you get to g620..there's a little more L2 or L3 cache..
Hmm..There's a difference in Intel coolers? wth.gif I never noticed..They all look the same to me..Want some?

Mine as well get the 3 then. Will be good for the CPU power for editing... I'm going to try making a small computer for the first time. I hope H61s do the trick.

Also there is no way you could build a solid i5 comp for 500... Right now I'm at 440$ with all componets, 4gb 1333, gt 440, h61 board, enermax psu.

the only bad thing about h61 is RAM gimping to 1066 or 1333
I've had a couple..It's all good :thumb.gif:
If you're not opposed to refurb..I could probably point you to a decent z68 for the same price or something.
