An interesting report comes from All Things D today, detailing a argument from Google against Apple. Unsurprisingly, the discussion revolves around patents, particularly standard essential patents (SEP). Basically, Google is suggesting that when technologies become popular enough, even if they are proprietary, they should become public standards, available to everyone.

Ok Google well once you open source your search algorithms we can start considering this tongue.gif

I bet they would.

Why would Google need to open source their search engine? Anyone can already make their own search engine. Search engines already are a public standard. It's not like they're patenting search engines.

apple will never accept this, there is too much money to be made of patents they own.

Apple is ahead of Google, why would they accept this? That's someone asking you for money in nothing for return.

TIL: Apple thinks it invented the smartphone.

Mr. Sewell, people were playing games, taking photos, and managing spreadsheets on their phones years before your company released the iPhone.
