TEC Question - Page 2

What if he overvolted the single, and ran it at 16v with a second rad? According to your Arqtik calc 16v instead of 12v is worth ~7c in exchange for an additional 126watts added to the loop(at least in my loop)...which a second rad can easily dissipate. It loses some efficiency, but would the extra voltage help the single block keep up with a 5ghz Sandy?

Adding a second rad + single block would still be less cost then a quad block, and you'd need a new PSU for the quad anyway so that expense would be a wash. Would that be 55-57* for $150 vs 45-47c for $350? Is additional 10* worth $200, when honestly your chip probably wont clock any high without sub-zero since its already clocked so high?

Just thinking out loud, I may be way off - Krow and Mindchill are the TEC pros here smile.gif

The difference is the Quad offers alot more horse power which gives more overhead.

The CPU would be around 200 - 210W of power used

Where the Single at 16V offers 220W of movable heat, the Quad at 12V offers 320W. Which translates to less run time, and less heat pumped into the surrounding environment. Or the obvious, lower temperatures if duty cycles were the same between coolers.

If you were to run the single at 16V, you would need a new power supply anyway. You aren't going to get 16V out of a ATX PSU. Another side note, you only need a 2nd power supply if you don't have the available current on your rails. That would be if you were trying to get away with as low of power PSU as you could.

The quad can take 16V, but it requires another 2 drivers to do it, because the current draw becomes quite a bit more.

With the less heat pumped into the cooling system and the added power of the Quad, he wouldn't have to upgrade his radiator, as any temperature added, could be powered through and still beat out the Single at 16V.
