Is my 1090t running too hot?

Thread Starter
Hi,

Overclocked my 1090t to 4.0 GHz @ 1.38 Vcore, bump to around 1.43 when I run prime 95.

Temp rise fairly quick to 57 core / 66 socket if I run prime.
I'm using a Silver Arrow as a cooler (same thing than NH-D14)

Are my temps too high? Should I try to reseat my Silver Arrow?

Cheers

EDIT : Messed up a bit with the fan speed, they should now hit 100% as soon as the CPU hit 55. It was only at 65% somehow!

EDIT 2 : Ended up downclocking to 3.6 @ 1.3 core. Temps are now 54 socket and 43 core. I'll stick to that until the temperature (outside, in the real world tongue.gif ) drop a bit.

66c is WAY too hot for your 1090T, I'd recommend not letting your CPU go above 60c, I believe that 62c is the max your 1090T should be at, anything over that and you're damaging your CPU.

You know that purposefully understated right? My q6600 wasn't supposed to go over 71 but, ran at 80c even 90c after OCing no matter what (multiple coolers). I can say i've seen the same with other chips. 66 is not "way no hot" getting hot yes but, way too hot, i don't think so.

I never let my CPU go above 55c, lets see who's CPU lasts longest, okay? :)

If you are using 3600, disable Cool'n'quiet and C1E, enable turbo and set Turbo Multi to 20 (4ghz) and put voltage on Auto. My 1090t on a 3 year old MSI am2(am2+ after bios) board could do it. On idle it'll be 800mhz with lowest voltage. With all cores busy, it's gonna be 3600 on stock voltage. Depending on individual core load, 1 to 3 cores can reach 4ghz on stock turbo vcore (1.47v) Don't worry it lowers other cores' voltage when it bumps 4ghz cores so the overall temp will be very close to stock cpu. It's better than constant 1.3v @ 3600.

My CPU can do 4ghz on 1.4 thumb.gif I'm quite sure that it will melt if it bump to 1.47, i'll still give it a go.

I know that it's way too hot, but keep in mind that this is the socket temp and not the actual core temps, which were still really hot at around 56.

Actually my real question is are these temps normal for a thermalright silver arrow cooler? (same thing than NH-D14)

Phenom II's have a low max safe temp. If you hit 68 or so it shut down.
