[msoshq] Windows 8 will RTM This Week - Page 12

Navigate to the Metro interface and start typing. Search still works the same way as it did in the classic start menu. Except its no longer in the way when you don't need it. And im sure they will add an app store search function in the near future (if it doesn't already exist in RTM).

Thanks, I figured that would probably work but I'm not on it right now so I couldn't try. If that is the case though, I really have no problems with it so far...

One thing that IS fact however, is the fact that most of you are making a HUGE deal out of something that ISN'T that big.

*Won't use windows 8 cause it doesn't have the same old same old start menu that's been around for 475^10 years, and change scares me hurhurhur*

That's really all I see. You go on and on about how it's "not intuitive", which leads me to believe you haven't used it a lot, if at all. From a function standpoint, the start screen works the exact same way as the old start menu, just in a different wrapping paper. Plus the Metro apps aren't bad. I LOVE the mail app, it's quite amazing. Integrates with my Gmail better than any other external mail app I have ever seen. Plus, the idea of a Windows app marketplace IS NOT A BAD IDEA. Stop acting like it is. It's pure convenience. Besides, nobody is forcing you to use the marketplace.

I will be keeping my win7 ultimate and probably it will be the last windows I ever use as I doubt they will make 9 more like 7 again. Windows7 is like the perfect OS. They actually did everything right with it.
Again, another user basing their own judgment on the opinion of others. I've seen people in this thread who use to say it would fail all the time. Now they are in here after actually using it saying its quite pleasant and not as bad as people make it off to be. We got another case of the "Bulldozer" here, except this product does meet expectations. The bad rumors is just mass hysteria of people afraid of change. People have been using the same desktop environment since Windows 95. This is the first time Microsoft has switched it up and is trying to implement a new innovation (hopefully a new trend for future Windows). People are scared by it, and don't know what to think other then its horrible. Windows 8 was never intended to be a desktop operating system, but Microsoft figured why not. As they will sell another 100,000 copies at the least. As for Windows 7, sure its stable but still far from being a perfect OS.

With the world itself turning into a "app market" I see no reason for Microsoft to not take this approach. Microsoft is only setting themselves up with a line of OS's that can cater to every platform. Future proofing their business as it may be.

Microsoft will always have this problem. I'm not stating my opinion on what I think of the new interfaces here but I WILL say this: If nothing changed on the outside you'd all whinge that there was nothing new and Microsoft never bother to implement *insert feature list here* or change UI. On the other hand, when they do make changes you still whinge. I feel sorry for the software giant... Flame me all you like but it is true. Raymond Chen has said it a billion times.

Regardless, Windows 8 won't fail like everyone thinks. Sure there is going to be the small percentage of techies/IT people who won't use it for their reasons, but the average consumer will just end up using it with there new laptop from Walmart. For this to really fail, there would have to be a very large number of people to not buy it, and maybe boycott buying new laptops/desktops/tablets.
you had me till the reference about vista, it wasnt perception it was fact, Vista was a fat bloated pig that sucked up alot of ram and ran like CRAP untill sp2 for it realy fixed it alot of the problems

It ran fine on my Athlon XP single core, 1GB RAM and 6800GS. Just as well as XP did, actually. Games ran smoother overall, SP1 fixed the reliability problems along with better drivers.

This as well, is your opinion. The only fact in this statement is the fact that you believe it to be fact.

I have 3 desktops, and 3 laptops in the house, and I have been running Windows 8 on one of the desktops full time since the RP came out.
I have made lots of customizations to it to make it easier to work with. Many more than I think I should have to considering this is Microsofts latest offering! Feel free to take it, but I'll be leaving it. To each his own. I do believe though, that when your average computer user starts buying new laptops and desktops with Windows 8 on them, they're going to find it very frustrating to use.
That's just my opinion though. wink.gif

By the way. The whole afraid of change argument has gotten very old. Change isn't always for the better!

No it isn't. As of the release preview they added sticky corners. I should know, that used to be one of my main complaints in the beta version since I have two monitors. tongue.gif

And in any case you can just position the monitor a bit above the one next to it in display settings... smile.gif
