Cherry Bomb
ok, so after watching this forum for a while, and being a computer enthusiast MUCH longer
, i decided OCN should become my pc loving home;).
After looking through the forums a bit, i was immediately hooked on the fantastic ideas and creations that have come out of this community, and it really encouraged me to try things i would have never trusted myself to do ("The Mod" was probably the most worthwhile thing i ever did for my gpu
, thanks dwood!). And so, it was only a matter of time before i too would give my shot at a custom computer case mod.
This particular build was all possible through a great friend of mine who now works at our school's tech department, and was able to snag both of us this old p4 machine. Now, both of them worked, (they had 3.6 and 3.8ghz socket 478 P4s in them), but that didn't cut it for either of us
. As we are both avid LANers, we decided the best idea would be to build as small and cheap a rig to take to our LAN parties, and do it with style
.
his rig will consist of a pentium D and a 4870 1gb, and mine will use my old Phenom II x3 with a 4870 512 mb, since we are getting both cards for 80 bucks off craigslist, and the rest he is getting off geeks.com (remember, we're doing both of these on an EXTREME budget
like 100< )
we started out with his rig; tore the thing down, and put on a coat of gloss black, but by the end, we learned A LOT about how and how not to paint a case (lets just say his needed a lot of sanding so it wouldn't look like a bunch of sand dunes; yeah it was THAT drippy
)
today, i started with my case, and i started with a couple of ideas, and it just kind of went from there, here is what i wanted:
***************finished! you can find the final photos here! http://www.overclock.net/t/1285594/budget-build-cherry-bomb-compteled/20#post_17841792 *****************
so here are some quick pics of the case when i got it

and so here is the bezel, and i wanted a 120mm intake fan on it, but there aren't any holes! ahhh, i have a dremel, so thats fixable

and fan placement on the case

after my bezel mod, i noticed that i could potentially do 3 x 120mm fans, which i might do *if i can get my hands on some
here is the paint i chose, originally wanted a deep purple, but they did not have any, and this matches the amd gpu anyway

and the new bezel! this turned out better than i expected, since it's really my first time chopping' around at a case. sadly i didnt take any midway ****s, since it went through about 3 revisions today
this just turned out the best

and here I've done all of the plastic components so far; its the cpu intake tube (connects to the side panel), intake cover, and front bezel

and a close up of the bezel

well, that wraps it up for day 1 (felt like i got a good deal done
, tomorrow will be interior painting, exterior (time permitting ) and then gloss coating (or not? it looks satin at this point, and i dont know if i want high gloss, or what i have now, what do you guys think?)
also, my idea for the bezel is outer bezel that cranberry red, the inner one keep that off white, and the grill black, does that sound good?
hope some of you enjoy this, and subscribe if you do! i will try to do daily updates since i have a lot of time for this atm

- front intake fan ( or more, ill get to that later
) - nice interior paint job
- nicer exterior paint job
- maximum airflow to core components (cpu and gpu)
