Has anyone tried the USB to optical on Laptop?

I have a thinkpad edge 14 and I want it to become a HTPC. I did a search online and find out that the usb can be used as a sound output so I found this.
Is that true that it can help my laptop to send out DTS surround sound to my receiver? Has anyone used it and how is the sound quality? Thank you.

It would probaly work like pluggins a USB DAC and these are usually the best for sound quality so I can't see why it wouldn't work correctly.

ok i bought one of these: AMAZON, and it advertises that it can send 5.1 DTS audio but when I install the optional driver, I still can't get the center speaker working. I use window 7 and it states that " This feature is only available on the Windows platform" <---- I just don't get it?!
