Need a second opinion

I have had this loop running for 6 months now. I hear 6 months to a year it needs some maintenance.

My question is that although it's run the inevitable path of rusting, there doesn't seem to be any gunk and the rust seems to be just discoloration. Should I still clean it up?

If you guys advice to do a complete clean up/flush what can I use to get rid of some of the rusting?

I don't know what the treatment is for a EK-SUPREME NICKEL (EN) version which isn't "supposed" to rust but... that's why I'm here to ask you guys smile.gif

What is in your coolant? That looks like some flaking amongst other things going on. I certainly would plan on draining inspecting blocks, photographing said blocks...and then if/once flaking is confirmed, send a firey email to EK asking for an RMA.

That block does not look healthy based on those photos. I forsee a new block in your future, preferably one not ,made by EK.

PS- rusting I NOT inevitable, apart from perhaps some copper oxidation.

Nickel not to prevent rust but reduce the amount of oxidation you can get in your loop.
Your cpu block does not look good at all. As posted above it look like flacking has happened

I'm using Nuke PHN as the coolant. I'll pull it apart tomorrow to take some more pics.

Keep in mind that Nuke PHN is for straight distilled water. No other additives or dyes or anything should be added: it is a cationic surfactant and will cause many other compounds to break down (including almost all dyes).

If you clean off the nickel block and it is indeed flaking then you could have too far differing mixed metals and require an anti-corrosion additive, or as others have mentioned may be using an EK block with poor plating.

I've been running a distilled + kill coil setup for almost a year now and my copper Supreme LT block look pretty much the same now as the day I installed. The amount of discoloration and particles visible in that block is definitely not good or normal. Like other have said I would drain the loop and make a closer inspection of the block.
