Which heatsink for 24/7 cooling in a server?

Thread Starter
I am looking for a heatsink under $100 for a 24TB RAID 5 server. The motherboard is an ASUS P8Z77-WS and the CPU is an i5-3570k at stock.

The board will have 16GB RAM installed so it should not interfere with the RAM. The case is a Lian Li PC-A77F so I think even tall CPU's should fit.

Any recommendations? Ordering online is fine.

Off topic: Kind of random, but I was shocked when I was unpacking the server materials. I noticed Intel shipped a used heatsink with the brand new SEALED i5-3570k that I bought. If that isn't enough, after I installed it two of the clips broke making it completely useless. The fan had dirt and dust all over it.

I'd recommend you use a hyper 212+ to cool the CPU of your server, its quiet, reliable and fairly easy to install.

I hope I helped. :)

I'd go for the largest heatsink practical.

If reliability/uptime is a concern, it's nice to have a heatsink capable of cooling the processor even if it's fan fails.

You should not have gotten a used heatsink with a new boxed processor.

Are you certain the packaging had not been tampered with in any way?

the noctua NH-C14 is pretty good compact CPU cooler. i'd found it was a couple of degrees cooler
than the 212 and a couple of degrees short from the NH-D14. it is a flat CPU cooler, so it can cool
the MOSFET and RAM as well as the CPU. most find the D14 a little cumbersome and loud.

how about this one?

212+ and 212 EVO are practically the same :p little between them, but yes, that's the CPU cooler I recommend.

Only difference is that there is more copper that contact the CPU on the EVO than on the +, it does make a slight difference but it's indeed practically the same.

never-mind the cpu cooler what are you cooling 24tb of spinners with tongue.gif ? Are they 7200 rpms drives or did you go with 10k-15k? Or are they in their own raid box?
