My PSU blew up. need to buy a new one - Page 2

How on earth did you get 670W out of that calculator?? I put in your specs, and I got 322W. I left capacitor aging and surge compensation alone, since those settings just arbitrarily add the percentage listed to the total Wattage, which seems odd to say the least.

You'll need something with at least 30A on the 12V rails in my opinion. There are below 500W PSUs that deliver that, like the Antec Truepower II 480W.

I think this Antec Smartpower 500W will do the job. It has been powering the rigs of several members here succesfully:

did you put all my specs in? and overclocked my CPU to 4GHz?

I also added 30% capacitor aging, since I will be using this PSU for atleast 3 years(hopefully) on this machine. If I don't do that then it still says I need atleast 535W. But I have to take aging into consideration, shouldn't I?

Antec is a bit overpriced for me. I saw HEC and Topower(not sure how good Topower is though), which are 500-550W and deliver 35A on the 12v rail.
only problem is that they are only 70-75% efficient at peak.

I would not get anything less than the Antec, and the Antec Smartpower already is not on my favourites list.

A good quality PSU is more important than Watts or whatever.

As I stated, the capacitor aging section is nonsense. It just adds 30% to the total Wattage. Crap if you ask me.

Breakdown of my input:
- nothing: 43W (mobo and such)
- CPU: D805 @ 4.0GHz, 1.6V: 177W
- 2 sticks DDR2 RAM: 10W
- 7600GS: 32W
- Single SATA drive: 13W
- Two optical drivers (assumed): 50W
- Bunch of fans (assumed 3 120mm): 15W
- Couple PCI cards...:10W

Total: 350W. Add some to be sure, and you'll end up at 450W.

But shouldn't I take some capacitator aging into account? Don't you agree that the PSU will not be as effective in 3 years, and might not hold the machine?

In here Antec costs more or less like a Crosair HX620W in the US. that's really over my budget.

that sunbeam really looked good. too bad it's not for sale in here. :/

If that Sunbeam would be fore sale there, it would be more expensive than the Antec Smartpower...

I took a 100W headroom into account for capacitor aging, which is more than enough in my opinion. Plus, I don't think the power drop will be that dramatic.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817174023 Myself and other members here have this and its powered my system for over a month without a hiccup, and its absolutely silent. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Its also half the price of that Sunbeam..

But is it in Israel?

Give me some alternative websites I can pick from

the only Hipro PSUs I find in here are 250w or 300w I'm afraid :/.

Chozart: I really dunno how you got those low numbers. I wish it to be true, but are you sure you checked all my PC components?

I would give you websites to check in. But all of them are in Hebrew. Except maybe www.logicpc.co.il

I gave you the breakdown....

Don't care about the website being Hebrew.... I can do a search on brand names, and feel my way around... I did that with the other site

What is your price limit... Enermax 485W EG495P-VE SFMA 20/24Pin Power Supply for 450 of your currency..
485W and 32A on the 12V rails. should be enough

I EDITED this reply:

First, let me thank you for your continuos help! and for the help of everyone who participates in this thread.

If I may return to the subject now, then really, how did you come up with those low Wattage number? I tried checking again and got the same big numbers.

regarding websites, here's a short list, but I have to warn you, basically most 500w+ brand PSUs are really over my budget according to those websites. Even if I do get the money for one of those, I'm not sure it will be worth the price. I guess I might prefer living with a more moderate OC than 4GHz.

http://www.zap.co.il/c-C-PowerSupply - this one is the best. It offers comprasion between most known Israeli sites. pretty easy to navigate too.
http://www.lamir.co.il/?category=15
http://www.maximus.co.il/Category.as...=15&ParentID=0
http://www.pandas.co.il/default.php?...4968e465167fde

About my price limit. I hope not to exceed 350-400 in my currency. 450 is over my budget but if it is necessary then I will spend that much on a PSU. The bigger problem is the fact that it only has 485W. I'm still not sure this will be enough in the long term(3+ years).
