FREAKING AWESOME! LOL

Now i haven't had much time to test but i started with a clean install of windows and upgraded all my mobo drivers to the latest and greatest. I just used the cd last time. I installed the 12.7beta drivers and started to overclock. I'm currently at 1220/1575 @ 1.225v I played about a 20 minute game of BF3 in eyefinity and i was amazed.

With my 6950 xfire i was overclock at 840/1325 as anything over in crossfire would at some point crash. I run bf3 on all ultra with no blur, no AA and 16xAF at 5064x1050 eyefinity. I was getting lows of 38fps and averaging about 45fps on say caspian border. Felt smooth and played great. Now with the 7970 i'm still getting lows of 38fps all though very very rarely but i'm averaging a good 55fps and it is so incredibley smooth. I can tell now that i was having microstuttering issues with crossfire. IT'S SO FREAKING SMOOTH. I never noticed how choppy my xfire was until now. I'm getting highs of 80fps on caspian which was unheard of with the 6950's for me. I'm pretty much always in the high 50's now and everyonce in a while it hits 38fps but is still so much smoother then my xfire ever was even at 50fps.

I can get more out of my cards overclock too. I know i can. Even after 20 minutes straight my card never even passed 55c on air. I'm overclocked to 1220/1575 @ 1.225v and the card is still super cool. I'm running at 90% fan speed becasue thats where i was with my 6950's and it is so so so much more quite then those even at 90%. I'm so impressed. I can't wait to get the max overclock out of her.

Which HD 7970 did you get ? And are you on the stock cooler and how is the noise at 90% fan speed.

I got the Sapphire 7970 OC Dual X. Yes it's on stock cooler and compaired to my 6950 xfire fan setup at 90% the Dual X is about 60% more quiet then that. LOL I couldn't really explain how loud it is but for me it's a very sweet improvement. biggrin.gif

I know a couple people that went to single 7970 from xfire 6950's (unlocked) and they love it. Benchmark wise the 6950's would show a 10% better score, but in games the 7970 was way faster. As in Skyrim with maxed settings the 6950's were getting only about 45fps looking at the same spot and on the 7970 it was getting 165fps. In games, the 7970 owns a pair of 6950 95% of the time. Some people didn't believe it and argued so I didn't really care as I have my 2 7970's biggrin.gif

Glad your liking it. I just moved from my 3 24" Asus's in Eyefinity to the Dell 30" 2560x1600p and couldn't be happier. With 2 7970's and Eyefinity I had many issues and got tired of it. You don't have those issues if you stay with just 1 7970. Also with 2 of them, it's not as smooth as your seeing now. I can agree that 1 7970 in eyefinity was very very smooth even not being locked at 60fps.

Yes very true in 3Dmark11 the 6950's held out better in the first three graphics tests but were owned in the combine test. LOL in games the 7970 is embarressing the 6950 xfire in BF3 and it's very nice not heating my living room up 5 degrees while playing for a half an hour. LOL card runs so cool.

Always best to go with 1 Badass Card,

I personally, and many agree with mee, believe that Crossfire and SLI are a waste.

after my experience i'm starting to agree. I was always the one stating i don't have issues other then games that don't support it but i never had many driver issues and always thought my xfire was fast and solid but i have a new look on my wonderful xfire setup. LOL

I generally suggest avoiding sli/crossfire until 1 gpu is just not fast enough.

I went from 2x 6970s to a single 7970 and have been pretty happy with the change

i think the general pupulation of SLI /Xfire users would say just about anything to justify the purchase lol

even if they notice the microstutter, they will often not "see" it when it counts lol

Yeah i honestly didn't notice the microstutter in BF3. I noticed the lag spike when it first released. Then 11.12cap3 came out and it seemed so smooth but then i got the 7970 and that thing is like a fried egg on new teflon. LOL even when the fps drops at points to a low of 38fps which is rare it still feels 10x smoother then my xfire was at 50fps. It's crazy. I'm averaging 55fps now in caspian border where as before i was averaging 45fps but i feel like i just took a 30fps increase because it's so damn smooth. LOL I'm in love! if you can tell. wink.gif
