How do you remove the CPU backplate from X79 2011 Asrock Fatal1ty? - Page 2

IMO, just return the cooler to the store and have it replaced by a cooler that is compatible with LGA2011. Ask them which ones are compatible or just bring the mobo with you and have them mount it for you. (Not sure if this is possible in the US, over here they will do that as after sales support.)

Don't get a mounting kit for another cooler. Ways to mount a cooler varies by manufacturer, their only requirement is that it be compatible with Intel''s socket. So all those mounting kits won't work on your cooler.

I tried a stab at the manual. See if you can do just steps 5,6 and 8. fastening the spring loaded screws to the mobo holes directly instead of to the screws that are on the unused steps.

Those spring loaded screws are designed to have screws inserted into them....so what you described would be like trying to screw two screw holes together.

My Spire TME 3 (SP984B1-V3-PWM) states compatibility with 2011 socket motherboards.
My Asrock X79 2011 Fatal1ty motherboard does not have a CPU backplate that can be removed.
I suspect your company states 2011 compatibility as it is the same size as 1366.
Non-removable backplates appear to be common on X79 motherboards.
Do you have any adapter plate accessories I could use?
I do not care if they are first or second party.
Any other advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your message and interest in Spire!

Please follow us on facebook and on Twitter.

There is no backplate for the 2011 socket.
If you look at your socket on the motherboard itself, you will see 4 screw holes in each corner, you attach the cooler with the delivered screw for the 2011 socket on it.
The cooler should fit correctly.

If it doesn’t fit let me know it.

According to the included manual there aren't any 2011 screws included in the packaging.
The manual doesn't mention the 2011 socket. It appears to be the same manual as the TME2 heatsink.
The only included screws that could fit into the socket are the long screws that usually come up from the bottom of the motherboard through the included cpu backplate.
The screws are about 1cm too long to be applied upside down into the socket.

Do you know approximately how long shipping would take and could you provide a tracking number?

Solved my problem...and I refuse to take the blame for this.
The motherboard manual refers to the CPU heatsink manual.
The CPU heatsink manual is the same as it was for the TME2.
Lame.

So I bought some screws and nuts from the hardware store.
3/4 inch 6-32 screws worked best. 3/4 inch 8-32 were a bit too big but sort of worked.

I'm screwing them in with a screwdriver.....as one might normally do...and they keep going.
I simultaneously think "hmmm" and "uh-oh".
The screws sure enough punched through the motherboard to the other side where nothing but free air was awaiting them.
Then I thought "don't tell me"...

So yeah...It appears this is what was supposed to happen.

Used the heatsink's OEM screws and assembled the rest of the PC...

I'm doing a wussy OC of 4.0ghz on it for now as I'm lazy and the GPU is what's holding it back right now.
It's a 4870 GPU with a 3820 CPU.

Well true to their word almost 2 weeks later it arrived.
Though I must admit I'm now more confused after looking at the new instructions.
