No chance. Any Haswell compatiable motherboard need to host a LGA1150 socket which physically can not be compatible with an Ivy CPU.

AMD and Intel are different on socket design and backward compatiablity (Intel's Socket don't last past 2 Gen at most).

AM2->AM2+ -> AM3->AM3+ then Pin number either didn't change(940) or went up(941 for AM3, 942 for AM3+), so as long as you don't change the overall Pin layout you can retain backward compatibility.

LGA1156->LGA1155(Ivy/Sandy)->LGA1150(Haswell) the Pin number are going down(1156->1155->1150), Since an IVY CPU needto be contacted with 1155 pins from LGA 1155 to Boot, it is physcially impossible for it to boot on an Haswell LGA1150 Socket with only 1150 pins. Not to mention Intel probably changed the Pin layout to support Haswell-only features, the likelihood of it supporting Ivy is null.

Ayt. Just got my Z77X UP4 TH, I'll disassemble my Z68 board and make this my new board, would've been cool if the UP5 was my prize haha smile.gif Am I allowed to ask it here? I am also in the process in building my very first HTPC, and Gigabyte H77N WIFI is my board, I'll get a G640 as a temporary CPU while waiting for G2120 to be released, is it a good CPU though? Sorry for the OT smile.gif

My board is coming tomorrow so I am downloading latest Bios and Drivers today, three questions:

1. I am planning on using QFlash to update on first boot after POST, I got a FAT32 USB thumbdrive and F11 Bios file Z77XUP5TH_F11 on it, is that all I need?

2. I am going to put a few other drivers I want to update on the same USB thumbdrive, will that interfere with a Bios Flash?

3.Does Gigabyte website always have the latest drivers? or should I go to Intel/Realtek to get the latest?

1. Yes (be sure extract 7-zip and only BIOS Z77XUP5TH.F11 place on USB thumbdrive)
2. No problem

Thanks, turns out Newegg shipped me a defective case so the build will have to wait until next Tuesday. But I have extracted the files and only have BIOS Z77XUP5TH.F11 on the thumbdrive.

Will spend the weekend to check if my other drives are up to date.

is there any chance that gigabyte are going to launch non thunderbolt versions of the UP4 or 5 ? I love the uncluttered looks & the stability of the UP series, but it will be a long time before I use thunderbolt Regards Beebee

unlikely i would say frown.gif Not because of what it would be, just because there is no point to releasing anymore z77 boards.
Aslo the price of the boards with TB is actually very good compared to others in the price range. IMO if I was GB id sell the UP boards for the same price even if they didn't have TB.
