Thinking of building this.

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I've been a skulking member for awhile, but after some time... I've finally decided to build my dream machine.
The build is just called black for now, no mods planned really, just planning on putting it together.

Some explanation for the weird prices.
I'm currently completing my university education in Korea haha so I'm buying the Mobo, Case, and CPU in Korea. The Vid card, RAM, SSD, and possibly CPU cooler will be shipped to me from the states.

The ones that end in .99 are things that I plan to buy stateside and ship over.

So what do y'all think? I want basically a dream machine, but without the 690 since that's... just too expensive haha.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to getting more involved here.

Well after much deliberation I've put together my vision, more or less, for this machine.

The parts are listed in my signature.

I plan to remove the 3.5 drive bay to improve airflow, and the heatsinks from one or more of the vengeance cards to facilitate the cpu cooler.
I'm going for the windforce since it will cool well, and it just looks awesome haha

Gonna use a 20pin to usb 3.0 adapter to connect the front 3.0 port to the mobo directly, opening up the rear ports and improving the aesthetics.

I went overkill on the PSU because I plan to use it for future builds, and to leave me limitless room to tweak and grow, because I do plan to at least sli in the fairly near future.

Slapping in two 128GB 830s in RAID 0 for the boot speed and photoshop and a few games, and using the re4 for everything else.

One 5.25 will be used for the 2 128s, and another for the re4.
Leaving me with two bays, contemplating putting in a fan controller or some random peripheral, and possibly a bluray drive in the future, but considering how little i use a drive nowadays, I might just forego that.

So the full parts list is as follows.
Corsair 600T White
Intel i5 3570K
Corsair Vengeance 32GB 1600 DDR3 Ram (4x8GB)
Samsung 830 128GB SSDs in RAID 0
Western Digital RE4 1TB for storage
Gigabyte GTX 670 Windforce 2GB
Corsair AX1200 Gold
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 mobo

So I'd love to hear your opinions on this proposed build. The only parts I've ordered so far are the RAM and RE4

Some points I'd like to address..

Any mobo recommendations?
and any CPU cooler recommendations? I'd love to be able to have a great cooler without having to mess with the RAM.
Thanks in advance!

Woops, hadn't set my rig in my signature. There it is! Money's not really a problem, provided its not astronomical like a 690 haha.

haha I'm planning to, but with basically no modding being done... I feel like it'd be slightly... pointless? haha

Hmm, I feel like I might be going a bit overboard with the RAM... but it's kind of a dream rig of mine... Always wanted an uber powerhouse. I picked the 650 case because of it's size making it easy to work in, and it's basically the best available in Korea right now. I kinda wanted to get a shinobi xl, but they don't have those here.
I feel like stock cooling will be enough, for the most part. Gonna remove the top 200mm and put the H100 Radiator up there, and possible move the 200 to the rear. anyone know if it'll fit?
Yeah Fair enough... Have you considered a NZXT switch 810 if there avalible in korea, the 200mm wont fit on the rear without modding the case because it is a 120mm fan on the rear, when you say stock cooling do you mean the intel stock cooler or the corsair h100 ??

Oooohhhh that's a definite option. I'm guessing I would put the h100 radiator up top and move the fan to either the front or bottom on the case eh?
and by stock cooling I meant not really adding on aftermarket fans haha.. I was looking at the 650D because I'd heard a general rule of thumb was that bigger fans were quieter, since they moved more air at a lower rpm.
But I would definitely be open to the 810.. Is it a fairly quiet case? would switching out the stock fans for better ones significantly reduce the noise? haha sorry for all the questions..
No i would put the radiator at the bottom, just remove one of the sets of hdd racks i think there is two, you are going to want to have fans at the top of the case, and another advantage of the 810 switch is that the rear fan can be a 140mm according to their site wheras the 650d can only put a 120 at the rear.
Of what i have read the 810 switch is a quiet case, the fans are quiet but you could just replace them for new ones if you really wanted, noctua fans are generally really quiet and they range in sizes.. biggrin.gif
Also the nzxt switch 810 can support a range of different motherboard sizes, which the 650d cant..

Both these are off their sites but it gives you an idea

Yeah, I read up on it on anandtech, and the idle temps are much higher than I was expecting.. Apparently the lack of a fan controller attributes to that.. But hell if i wanted a good controller I guess I'd have to buy one anyway right?

And another thing that has me thinking... From what I know mATX boards offer almost similar options when it comes to a single card build, in a much more compact space. I was originally building around one of the silverstone temjin cases. But I thought that cooling would end up being a nightmare in a tiny case like that, so I thought of opting for a big rig haha. I should do some reading on the builds... But yeah thanks for the suggestions haha I def need some more research before I'm absolutely certain.
