vworker works (hehe) however you will most likely have to lower your charges a bit, there are A LOT of workers from different parts of the world that can charge a fraction of what an American worker would since they have lower living expenses in their countries.
Another recommendation for vworker and similar sites, have a full portfolio from the start, since you will have 0 "rep" in their system its imperative that you show you have experience, skills and are reliable.
One last recommendation is to go for the big bite, at first its very tempting to just mass produce code (or graphics I guess) for several $100-ish projects and just nail one in an hour or two, but you WILL find this to slow you down as soon as a client wants changes (and they will), go for the big projects, most not-really-professionals will not bid for them, and while they are more time consuming, if you have the skills it should be worth it money-wise.
