WD Black 1TB HDD not being recognized

Thread Starter
Long story short, I tried to run an older program of DVDFab to back up my wedding video's. Anyway, my computer blue screened after I got some error from the program and I had to reboot it (it was stuck in the bluescreen....screen). Anyway, after rebooting (and horror having DVDShrink for some reason trying to install as soon as I get into windows and it installed various toolbars), I find that my backup drive (the WD Black 1TB drive) is no longer showing up in my computer. So naturally, I check out disk management and it does not show up there either. I restart PC and go to bios, and it does not show up there either.

Did it just fail on me?

Try changing the SATA cable and also the SATA port to a different one on the MOBO.

You could try to burn a linux Live disc (Ubuntu etc...) and see if you can access the files that way, but it's not a good sign that it isn't detected in the BIOS.

I would also uninstall everything related to DVD Shrink, maybe that will help. Worth a shot

Was there any strange behavior days leading up to this failure from the HDD.

Sorry I can't be more help. Keep us updated with your progress. Hopefully a HDD guru can come in here with better suggestions.

Good luck!
